Rashard Mendenhall Injury: Should Fantasy Owners Sit or Start Steelers RB?

Jon DoveOct 9, 2011

According the Adam Schefter, Rashard Mendenhall is still listed as questionable for today's game.  However, Mendenhall was limited all week and doesn't appear 100 percent.  It would be a real stretch to say that Mendenhall is a good fantasy option.

Mendenhall has not had a great start to the season, only averaging 3.0 yards per carry.  The entire Steelers offense has struggled to establish a strong running attack.  This has a lot to do with the injuries along the offensive line.  The offensive line is missing several key pieces, limiting their effectiveness.

Pittsburgh is facing a tough Tennessee Titans defense today.  The Titans defense is only allowing 87 rushing yards per game.  This stat combined with the Steelers struggles makes Mendenhall a questionable fantasy option.

The pure numbers suggest that Mendenhall is not a great fantasy option.  However, now you have to factor in his injury.  Mendenhall has not been effective at 100 percent, so expect to see even less production.

It appears that this injury will keep Mendehall out of the game, just an other reason to exclude him from your lineup.  If you in the situation where you need to make an early lineup decision, then sit Rashard Mendenhall.

Mendenhall appears unlikely to play, and if he does won't be at 100 percent.  If your a Mendenhall owner, it is time to evaluate your bench, or hit the waiver wire.

**Update** SINow is reporting that Rashard Mendenhall will play today.  However, as I mentioned earlier he remains a questionable play.  If you lack running back depth then you might be forced to play Mendenhall.  However, if there is any other option I would go in that direction.
