College Football Rankings Week 7: 4 Teams in Danger of Falling out of Top 25

John RozumOct 9, 2011

For the schools that it happens to, dropping out of the Top 25 definitely hurts the confidence of your team.

But it also opens up an opportunity for redemption, as well as to prove that you can overcome adversity.

With that in mind, here are four teams that were ranked in the Top 25, but will be unranked once the new polls are released.

No. 10 Texas Longhorns

1 of 4

This past week the Texas Longhorns received a reality check from Big 12 rival Oklahoma in the form of a 55-17 beat-down.

And it also proved how overrated Texas was being that they were ranked No. 10 in the Coaches' poll, yet their most impressive win was 17-16 over now 4-2 BYU at home.

The Longhorns other wins came over Rice, UCLA, and Iowa State, none of whom will come close to being ranked by season's end.

It's quite a drop from No. 10 to unranked after losing to the country's No. 1 ranked team, but the way in which they lost was not indicative of a Top Ten school.

Losing by only a couple of TDs would have sufficed, but getting slaughtered is a whole different story, especially when you have no impressive wins prior.

No. 18 Florida Gators

2 of 4

The loss against Alabama was tough, but Florida proved they could hang with arguably the country's best team for almost a full game.

This past week however, was a complete disaster against another dominant team in LSU.

After the first quarter against Alabama, the Gators were tied with the Tide 10-10, but after one quarter against LSU however, Florida was down 14-0 and only came as close as 27-11 after the third quarter.

And although they were ranked No. 18 coming into Baton Rouge, the Bayou Bengals weren't intimidated as they had already played three ranked schools prior.

The Gators will drop from the rankings and with a tough schedule remaining, we may not see them back in the Top 25.

No. 22 Florida State Seminoles

3 of 4

The Florida State Seminoles are arguably the most disappointing team thus far in 2011.

They were ranked No. 5 in the preseason, but are now only 2-3 and have lost three straight games.

Prior to their Week 6 matchup against Wake Forest the 'Noles were ranked No. 22 in the Coaches' poll, but after losing to an unranked and inferior team like the Demon Deacons, there's no doubt that FSU should drop from the Top 25.

And don't be surprised if Florida State drops another game this week on the road against the 3-2 Duke Blue Devils who are playing with a lot of confidence.

By season's end it won't be surprising to see Florida State remain unranked, but it would nonetheless be very disappointing.

No. 23 Auburn Tigers

4 of 4

Heading into Week 6 the Auburn Tigers were ranked No. 23 in the Coaches' poll, and had a record of 4-1.

They've been in and out of the rankings since the Week 3 loss to Clemson, and were poised to stay alive against the No. 12 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks.

Well needless to say, Arkansas dominated and won 38-14 and scored 31 unanswered after the first quarter to blank the Tigers thereafter.

The loss drops Auburn to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.

But, getting beat that badly when you're ranked No. 23 doesn't bode well for being ranked the following week.

Auburn should get back into the rankings by season's end, but it won't be any higher than No. 20.
