5 Light Heavyweight Fights for Anderson Silva After He Loses to Chael Sonnen

G DOct 9, 2011

Soon after Chael Sonnen defeated Brian Stann at UFC 136, he let the world know exactly how he felt about UFC Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, in the televised post-fight interview in the Octagon with Joe Rogan.

"Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck!"

"...If I beat you, you leave the division. If you beat me, I'll leave the UFC forever."

If their rematch is anything like the first time around, Silva very well may be leaving the middleweight division and heading toward the 205-pound weight class.

The following slides display five fights for Anderson Silva at the light heavyweight division.

Let's take a look.

Jon Jones

1 of 5

If Anderson Silva would make the transition to the Light Heavyweight division, a fight against Jon Jones would be unavoidable.

Jones vs. Silva could arguably be the biggest fight in UFC history as both have dominated their respected weight class since being declared the champion.

Both Jones and Silva are two of the world's best pound-for-pound fighters as they are explosive and specialize in every aspect of mixed martial arts.

Phil Davis

2 of 5

Since entering the UFC in February of 2010, Phil Davis has been on a fast track to the top of the Light Heavyweight division in search of a title shot.

Not only has Davis never lost a fight in his mixed martial arts career, but he's never even been taken down.

While Silva would clearly hold the advantage in the stand up, if the fight were to go to the ground, Silva could find himself in trouble.

Lyoto Machida

3 of 5

While Silva has already stated he won't fight Lyoto Machida, he wouldn't have a choice if their paths crossed in the 205 lb. weight class.

Very similar in their skills, Silva vs. Machida could be one of the most fundamental fighters in the history of MMA.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu show down would be a must if Silva made the transition to the Light Heavyweight division.

Rashad Evans

4 of 5

Rashad Evans very well may be the best Light Heavyweight fighter in the UFC as he's yet to square off with current champion Jon Jones to find out.

Specializing in grappling and take down skills, Evans has lost just one fight in his career against Lyoto Machida at UFC 98.

A fight between Silva and Evans would be one for the ages as Silva holds the advantage in the stand up and Evans in the ground game.

Mauricio

5 of 5

Aside from his sub-par effort against Jon Jones at UFC 128, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua remains one of the best Light Heavyweight fighters in the UFC today.

The former champion is overwhelmingly vicious in his strikes and ground and pound skills.

This fight between two Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitu artists could easily happen if Silva were to make the jump to the 205 lb. weight class.
