UFC 136 Results: Nam Phan Not Interested in Third Fight with Leonard Garcia
After avenging his controversial loss to Leonard Garcia from December 2010, Nam Phan has no interest in meeting the Greg Jackson-trained fighter for a third time. Though, after two exciting bouts between the two competitors, it wouldn't be shocking to see the trilogy completed some day.
In their last matchup, Phan seemed to get the better of Garcia. However, the judges awarded Garcia a decision victory in what was widely regarded as one of the worst decisions of 2010. Because he arguably defeated Garcia twice, Phan doesn't feel another fight would be necessary.
"I felt like I beat him twice already," Phan said in an interview with MMA Fighting. "I was over it the first time. I was already ready to move on. There should no way be a third fight."
Coming off of back-to-back losses, this was a pivotal fight for Phan. It is possible that a loss could have led to his release from the UFC. Phan recognized the importance of the situation, though, and came away with a unanimous decision win.
"I felt like this was the last pitch and I had to hit a home run," Phan said.
