UFC 136 Results: Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva II Head-to-Toe Breakdown
Tonight at UFC 136, Chael Sonnen made a huge statement.
Not only did Sonnen defeat rising star Brian Stann by Arm-Triangle Choke, he called out current middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Sonnen even went as far as saying he would leave the UFC if Silva could defeat him again.
Although it hasn’t been set in stone just yet, a second meeting between Sonnen and Silva has to happen. Here’s a breakdown of this highly anticipated rematch.
Striking
1 of 7This is a no brainer.
Anderson Silva is the most precise striker in MMA today.
Silva is also unpredictable which makes it even harder for his opponent to deal with his striking.
Silva didn’t do much striking in his first fight with Chael Sonnen, but he will most likely try to keep the fight standing this time around.
Advantage: Silva
Wrestling
2 of 7There’s no question who takes this category.
Sonnen used his wrestling to dominate Silva in their first fight.
A great Division 1 wrestler in college, Sonnen has the ability to take just about anybody down at will and keep them there.
Advantage: Sonnen
Submissions
3 of 7Although Sonnen was able to submit Brian Stann tonight, he has been submitted more times than he has won by submission.
Silva on the other hand holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has six wins by submission.
Silva’s submission victories include Travis Lutter, Dan Henderson and Sonnen himself.
Advantage: Silva
Cardio
4 of 7Neither Silva nor Sonnen have really gassed out in a fight.
Sonnen can usually put the pressure on his opponent for the entire fight while Silva usually ends his fights before the third round.
If there last fight is any indication of how the rematch will go, then Sonnen may have a slight edge.
But really it could be a toss up.
Advantage: Tie
Trash Talking
5 of 7A rematch between Silva and Sonnen could sell itself just based off of their first fight alone.
Add the fact that Sonnen called out Silva tonight and raised the stakes with a bet, and the fight will be major.
Trash talking is not usually a category that would not matter.
But Sonnen’s trash talking could possibly distract Silva.
Advantage: Sonnen
Defense
6 of 7Although Silva was not able to stuff Sonnen’s takedowns in their first fight, overall he still gets the nod for defense.
Silva usually is able to either take any shot his opponent gives him, or he dodges his opponent’s punches and kicks with his feet planted on the ground.
Sonnen on the other hand has often been caught in an opponent’s submission.
Advantage: Silva
And the Winner Is...
7 of 7In their first fight, Anderson Silva pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in MMA history by submitting Sonnen in the final round.
Although Sonnen believes he will not only repeat the performance he had against Silva, but defeat him, he could just be waking a sleeping monster.
Sonnen did make Silva look human in their first fight. But Silva is still on another level right now and will most likely try to end this one a lot sooner than their first fight.
Silva will take this fight by TKO in the second or third round.
