Fantasy Football Week 5: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for the Entire NFL in Week 5

Joe Rapolla Jr.Oct 9, 2011

I'm in an intriguing situation in my league this week. I sit at 3-1 and have two talented quarterbacks on my roster: Mike Vick and Matt Ryan.

By the numbers, Mike Vick is the clear-cut starter. He passes for just as much and has the potential to blow up and have a 40 point week. So why I am I starting Ryan?

One compound word: the MATCHUP. The matchup in fantasy football can never be taken lightly. Sure Mike Vick is Mike Vick, but Matt Ryan is playing the Green Bay Packers, who despite being a 4-0 powerhouse, possess a weak defensive secondary. Expect a lot of scoring and passing in the Sunday Night showdown between the Atlanta Falcons and the Green Bay Packers.

On to Start 'Em/Sit 'Em...

Quarterback Starts:

Cam Newton: He's playing well. The game will be a shootout vs. the Saints.

Kevin Kolb: The Vikings defense is struggling this year.

Eli Manning: He's in his groove and playing the Seahawks.

Matt Ryan: He'll remind people why he's a No. 1 QB.

Quarterback Sits:

Andy Dalton: Last week's win was a fluke.

Matt Schaub: He'll struggle with AJ to throw to.

Ryan Fitzpatrick: The Bills are gonna have a tough time in the air.

Matt Hasselbeck: Pittsburgh will come back to life.

Running Back Starts:

LeGarrette Blount: He reminded everyone in Week 4 how good he is.

Cedric Benson/Bernard Scott: Whoever starts, Jacksonville has no defense.

Jahvid Best: The Lions will look to control the game clock by running.

Beanie Wells: He should continue his hotness against the Vikings.

Running Back Sits:

Michael Turner: This will be a passing battle.

Rashard Mendenhall: Gotta be weary of players fighting injuries.

Darren McFadden: I have a weird hunch it won't be his week.

Chris Johnson: Yes, believe it or not, he's not that good right now.

Wide Receiver Starts:

Steve Smith: Cam is good, and he loves him some Steve Smith.

Eric Decker: If he is not owned, pick him up. (Denver)

Julio Jones: He'll shine against a bad GB pass defense.

Vincent Jackson: Philip Rivers will be throwing well.

Jordy Nelson: I think he'll be the WR of the night for Rodgers.

Wide Receiver Sits:

Stevie Johnson: The Bills will struggle this week.

A.J. Green: The Bengals won't look as good as last week.

Mike Williams (TB): Blount will be running this game (literally).

Reggie Wayne: Painter doesn't like him.

Tight End Starts:

Scott Chandler: He keeps up his red zone numbers after a bad week.

Brandon Pettigrew: No TDs, but a ton of receptions for him.

Greg Olsen: He's Cam's favorite red-zone target.

Tight End Sits:

Jermaine Gresham: The Bengals will be very off this week.

Kellen Winslow: Josh Freeman won't look his way.

Vernon Davis: The Tampa D will shut down San Fran.
