UFC 136 Results: What We Learned from Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian
The fight between Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian at UFC 136 went the way most fans expected it to. Although Florian came out strong and certainly took the first round, he yet again was unable to walk away with UFC gold.
What we’ll remember about this fight:
Aldo is a phenomenal fighter who just might have the ability to hold the belt at both featherweight and lightweight. Although he lost the first round, his striking and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu helped him grind out a decision victory against Florian.
What we learned about Jose Aldo:
Jose Aldo is very likely to go down as one of the greatest fighters in the history of Mixed Martial Arts. He didn’t look nearly as tired in the final rounds during his fight with Florian as he did in his fight with Hominick. It is an absolute possibility for Aldo to try and hold belts at featherweight and lightweight.
What we learned about Kenny Florian:
Kenny Florian just can’t cut it when he goes up against a champion for the belt. He is an incredibly gifted fighter, but he just doesn’t come to fight when the belt is on the line.
What’s next for Jose Aldo:
A move to lightweight? So far, no one in the history of the UFC has held two belts at the same time. With a move up, Aldo absolutely has the skill-set to be the first fighter to ever do so.
What's next for Kenny Florian:
It’s time for Florian to retire and become a trainer/coach. It saddens me to say it, but it’s true. Florian is just the ultimate gatekeeper. He can keep fighting if he chooses, but his time would be better spent training future champs.
