UFC 136 Results: Chael Sonnen Proves He's Back with Challenge to Anderson Silva

It took less than nine minutes for Chael Sonnen to defeat Brian Stann in his first UFC action since August 2010, and it took even less time than that to challenge his nemesis Anderson Silva after the fight.

Sonnen, who submitted Stann with an arm-triangle choke, has made his distaste for the legendary Silva rather clear, especially since his loss to Silva.

On Saturday at UFC 136, he went far and beyond everything he's ever said. Sonnen said he would leave the UFC forever if he lost to Silva in the Super Bowl fight card in February.

Said Sonnen, via Yahoo! Sports: "Super Bowl weekend...the biggest rematch in the history of the sport. I'm calling you out Silva. I beat you, you leave the division, I lose, I will leave the UFC forever."

Of course, Sonnen started off with the customary, "Anderson Silva...you suck!"

It's worth noting that Sonnen actually was dominating Silva for 23-plus minutes in UFC 117 before Silva executed a stunning come-from-behind victory via submission.

Of course, that was before Sonnen was suspended for a year for allegedly taking performance-enhancing drugs. Sonnen said at the time that he was taking testosterone because of a deficiency in his system.

Sonnen's latest barbs could be just more pre-fight hype, which the American out of Oregon has always made sure to surround himself with. But this time his challenge actually seems real. Given his last performance against Silva, he may just believe he has a chance against Silva. He also knows he'll never be the fighter Silva is, and risking his career at 34 years of age may be worth the reward he would get from possibly disposing of the Brazilian.

Imagine how much joy Sonnen would get from effectively knocking his foe out of the UFC for good. He may just retire anyway knowing he accomplished everything he dreamed of.

Sonnen has said a lot of crazy things, but this may top them all.

And both fighters' fanbases are hoping Silva accepts the challenge.
