UFC 136 Results: What We Learned from Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan
Certainly one of the most exciting fights at UFC 136 was Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan. Both fighters left everything they had in the cage on Saturday night in what was perhaps one of the most exciting fights of the year.
What we’ll remember from this fight
Nam Phan has some impressive boxing, and these two fighters know how to put on a show.
This fight didn’t have any quit in it. Except for a brief moment where the two were on the ground after a takedown from Phan, these fighters were going for broke the entire extent of the fight.
We also know that we want to see Phan vs. Garcia 3. And 4...and maybe 5.
What we learned about Nam Phan
Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia are now 1-1 against each other. In this fight, however, Phan’s boxing looked excellent. Joe Rogan referred to it as Diaz-like striking. On many occasions Phan peppered Garcia with a few light shots before unloading big time.
What we learned about Leonard Garcia
Leonard Garcia cannot be in a boring fight. He is a fighter that goes into the cage to fight.
Another thing we learned is that Garcia really needs to work on is his cardio. It would also be a great idea for Garcia to tighten up his boxing.
What’s next for Nam Phan?
Nam Phan showed lots of improvement in his stand-up fighting tonight. He needs to come up against some stiff competition next at featherweight so we can see how he now measures up in the division. Who would be a good test for Phan?
What’s next for Leonard Garcia?
While Garcia didn’t get the win tonight, he certainly impressed a lot of people. Fans love fighters who go in the cage and swing for the fences. He may not have won the fight, but Garcia will stick around for a while. If he tightens up his striking and improves his cardio, he’ll walk through his next fight no problem.
