UFC 136 Fight Card: 3 Fights to Get Gray Maynard Back on Track
Frankie Edgar gave Gray Maynard the first loss of his mixed martial arts career via technical knockout in Round 4 of their UFC 136 bout.
Despite coming up short in his second lightweight title shot, Maynard remains one of the best 155-pound fighters in the UFC.
Many feel Maynard will now have to wait his turn in receiving a rematch against Edgar, meaning he will need a "get-back-on-track" fight.
The following slides display three fights that could get Maynard back on track.
Let's take a look.
Melvin Guillard
1 of 3Melvin Guillard entered UFC 136 possibly needing one victory to earn himself his much desired lightweight title shot.
It didn't take long for Guillard to be bounced from the title shot talks as he was submitted within one minute of the very first round by Joe Lauzon.
Similar to Maynard, Guillard now needs a fight to get back on track.
Maynard vs. Guillard makes sense and could very well happen.
Dennis Siver
2 of 3Dennis Siver is one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC today and has won four consecutive fights in the lightweight division.
Siver has won eight of his last nine fights defeating notable opponents such as Spencer Fisher, George Sotiropoulos and Matt Wiman.
Similar to Maynard, Siver brings excitement every time he enters the Octagon, making this fight an even greater possibility.
Clay Guida/Ben Henderson Loser
3 of 3With the winner of Clay Guida versus Ben Henderson likely to move on to face Frankie Edgar for the next lightweight title shot, the loser would need a "get-back-on-track" fight.
And, even though one of these two fighters will come up short, they will still remain in the upper echelon of the 155-pound weight class.
Both Guida and Henderson would be a very dangerous fight for Maynard after suffering the first loss of his career.
While Maynard has many possible opponents in the lightweight division, this bout makes the most sense.
