UFC 136 Results: 3 Fighters Who Could Be Next for Frankie Edgar
In the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts career, Frankie Edgar remained the UFC lightweight champion of the world by defeating Gray Maynard at UFC 136.
By knocking out Maynard, Edgar has now avenged the only loss of his MMA career and remains on top of the 155 lb. weight class.
While Edgar is certainly the best fighter in his division, there are many more lightweight contenders waiting for a shot at the champion.
The following slides display three fighters who could be next for Frankie Edgar.
Let's take a look.
Clay Guida/Ben Henderson Winner
1 of 3Clay Guida and Ben Henderson will meet at UFC on Fox on November 12th, 2011 with the winner more than likely to receive a title shot against Edgar.
Both Guida and Henderson are similar to Edgar in the sense that they use their quickness and speed to gain points from the judge's scorecards.
Guida and Henderson also demonstrate world class submission skills as they have combined for 23 career victories by way of tap out.
The winner of Guida/Henderson could be next in line for Edgar.
Gilbert Melendez
2 of 3While Gilbert Melendez has yet to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship, it won't be long until he does.
And when does, he may just find himself squaring off with the UFC Lightweight champion in Frankie Edgar.
Melendez brings to the table similar skills to that of Gray Maynard as he either takes his opponent to a decision or knocks them out.
Melendez could be next in line if and when he makes the transition to the UFC.
Gray Maynard
3 of 3Despite coming up short in his third fight against Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard still remains arguably the second best fighter in the Lightweight division.
Even with a loss, Edgar and Maynard now share a 1-1-1 record which will eventually lead to a fourth and possibly final bout between the two.
While many feel Maynard will now have to wait his turn, you just never know with these two.
