UFC 136 Results: Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian
Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian touched gloves as one of the most anticipated bouts of the year began.
The Houston fans appeared in shock as Florian was the aggressor early, pushing Aldo up against the cage.
Aldo attempted to use his speed and aggression to overwhelm Florian early, but the Featherweight newcomer showed his heart, taking the champion to the ground.
Aldo escaped and took the fight back to the stand up as he landed a vicious blow to the chin of Florian.
But, once again, Florian pushed Aldo to the cage and took him down.
While he failed to capitalize on top control, Florian still gained points with the judges and took home Round 1.
Aldo controlled action as Round 2 began, landing huge strikes to Florian and eventually taking him to the ground.
It appeared Aldo was getting close to remaining the 145-pound champion but before you could blink, both fighters were back to their feet.
Aldo landed strikes and kicks to the midsection of Florian and evened the tide by winning the second frame.
Aldo continued his dominance as he landed a kick to the inner thigh of Florian as he began to stumble and limp.
Florian recovered and attempted a take down but Aldo proved why he is the best Featherweight fighter in the world by stuffing nearly every attempt.
Aldo landed a few more strikes as the third round came to a close.
Advantage, Aldo.
Florian bounced back in the first of two championship rounds by setting the tone in front of a sold-out Toyota Center.
After landing minor strikes, Florian moved in to take down Aldo but failed.
Aldo attempted his well-known flying knee, but Florian covered up.
While Round 4 was all but even, Aldo landed a strike to the chin of Florian giving out a "ohhh" from the Texas crowd.
The fifth and final round was under way as Florian slipped and found himself on his back.
Aldo attempted kicks from the stand up before entering and taking top position.
But, Florian's heart wouldn't let him quit as he escaped with two minutes remaining in the championship bout.
Fans began to send out "boos" as both fighters were stuck in the clinch up against the cage.
With 30 seconds remaining, Florian and Aldo began swinging away as the fight came to an end.
All the judges' scorecards read 49-46, declaring the winner and still UFC Featherweight champion of the world, Jose Aldo.
