UFC 136 Results: Melvin Guillard Will Beat Joe Lauzon and Eye Title Next

Richard LangfordOct 8, 2011

Melvin Guillard is going to put a violent and victorious end to his fight with Joe Lauzon. Guilard wanted to fight Lauzon, and it was a somewhat curious move as it is a bit of a step back.

Still, if he performs in this fight his career will still be on an upswing and his goal of a title shot will be closer than ever.

Guillard is 3-0 in his past three fights: From most recent going back he KO's Shane Roller, TKO'd Evan Dunham and won a split decision with Jeremy Stephens.

Why Guillard Will Win

Guillard is getting better with each match, while Lauzon seems to be on the wrong side of his peak.

Lauzon's style will leave him open to a violent knockout that Guilard is more than capable of delivering. He is at his best as a submission grappler, which is not great at standup fighting. He has also been getting gassed easily.

Guilard just has to avoid a first round submission and he will be able to utilize his superior striking skills and record a knockout.

Title Shot Resume

Guillard's career is clearly on the rise and a title fight is on the horizon. He has won his last five bouts, and has been amazing since returning from a suspension that was due to a positive cocaine test.

That suspension came in mid-2009. He has gone 6-1 since returning from that suspension, and he is fighting better than ever.
