UFC 136 Fight Card: 6 Reasons To Be Excited for This Event
UFC 136 is almost here after months of anticipation.
The event will feature not one, but two title fights, including the long awaited third matchup between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar against Grey "The Bully" Maynard.
Also featured will be the return of Chael Sonnen, MMA’s biggest mouth, taking the much respected Brian Stann in a possible middleweight title eliminator match.
Here are some more reasons to get hyped up for this event!
Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan II
1 of 6Their first fight at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale was a back and forth slug fest in which Garcia picked up a controversial split-decision win.
Despite the lost, Phan was still paid a win bonus as well as a bonus for Fight of the Night honors.
If their second match is anything like their first, Phan and Garcia will steal the show and leave fans happy once again…unless the judges can’t get the outcome right.
Some Fighters Have the Chance To Get Closer to a Title Shot
2 of 6Melvin Guillard, Brian Stann and Anthony Pettis are all chasing a title.
Guillard and Pettis are going after the lightweight title while Stann is chasing Anderson Silva’s middleweight title.
Guillard and Stann are close to title shots and wins over their opponents could put either man in a title fight.
Pettis would have been next in line for a title shot, but a draw between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard and losing to Clay Guida have set the exciting former WEC champion back some.
A win over a very dangerous Jeremy Stephens should put Pettis back on the right track.
Chael Sonnen’s Return
3 of 6Ever since Uncle Chael nearly defeated Anderson Silva, fans have waited for his return.
Sonnen may have been out for over a year due to a suspension and legal troubles, but he has been anything but low key.
Because of the respect he has for his opponent, Brian Stann, there hasn’t been any trash talk from Sonnen.
It will be interesting to see if Sonnen can indeed get back into title contention and a rematch with Silva.
Kenny Florian May Finally Win a Title
4 of 6During season one of the Ultimate Fighter, Kenny Florian fought as a middleweight.
Now at age 35, Florian is fighting three weight divisions down at featherweight.
Not only has Florian fought in four different weight divisions, he has fought for a UFC title twice already.
Florian may finally see his dream come true tonight. But it will not be an easy task as he takes on the very dangerous Jose Aldo.
Jose Aldo May Continue His Dominance
5 of 6Jose Aldo is arguably the most exciting fighter in MMA today.
Aldo has ruled the featherweight division since he won the WEC featherweight title in 2009.
Aldo has become one of MMA’s best, using his speed and dangerous striking to defeat his opponents.
Although Florian defeating Aldo would make a good story, Aldo has been called the Anderson Silva of his division.
Edgar vs. Maynard III
6 of 6The main event of the night will feature Frankie Edgar taking on Gray Maynard for the UFC lightweight title.
Maynard, who defeated Edgar back in 2008, was well on his way to winning the title after he hurt Edgar badly in the first round.
Edgar somehow fought his way back into the fight, causing a draw.
If Edgar and Maynard’s fight is anything like their second, it should be an exciting end to their trilogy.
