UFC 136 Results: Edgar Will End Great Debate with a Decisive Victory

Richard LangfordOct 8, 2011

Frankie Edgar is going to further the strides he made on Gray Maynard in their second bout and land a decisive victory in their third match.

This fight is being billed as the Great Debate, as their second match ended in a unanimous draw. It was not a fulfilling result after a solid fight. And if you ask two fans you are likely to get two different answers as to who won.

While those results are certainly not what the fans wanted, they couldn't have been completely disappointing for Edgar.

Maynard scored a decisive victory in their first match. Edgar obviously learned from this bout.

In their rematch at UFC 125, Edgar used his speed to maintain distance. He was also careful to more meticulously plan his blows.

This prevented Maynard from taking advantage of his superior wrestling skills.

Edgar dictated the pace of that bout with his superior footwork. And in the process he established a game plan for success.

Edgar will once again look to utilize his footwork and speed. He will land combos when Maynard comes in for clinches, and this will begin to wear Maynard out.

Edgar will then be in a position to land a decisive blow, and he will be ready to do just that this time. I'm not confident that Edgar has the power to knock out a determined Maynard, but he certainly has enough to daze and frustrate him.

That will play right into Edgar's hands, and it will only aid him in his quest to technically dominate Maynard. I expect a unanimous decision for Edgar.
