UFC 136 Predictions: Brian Stann and 3 Fighters Ready to Pull an Upset

Tim KeeneyOct 8, 2011

UFC 136 is almost here. For all you betting types out there, here are three guys who have the odds against them but are ready to pull the upset in Houston.

Brian Stann

Whether you love or hate (probably hate) Chael Sonnen, one thing is clear: he has talent inside the Octagon. Sonnen will likely look to take Stann to the ground as soon as possible even though his boxing skills have much improved.

His standing game isn't quite that of Stann's however. "The All-American" packs a powerful punch, and since he'll likely get a shot at Anderson Silva if he wins, expect Stann to come out swinging.

Stann will land an early knockout as Sonnen attempts to get him to the ground.

Jeremy Stephens

This lightweight fight seems to have everyone talking, and rightfully so. It will be a good one.

Both men are incredibly talented at the stand-up and this one should stay there for most of the fight. The 24-year-old Anthony Pettis brings a lot to the cage, but the more experienced Stephens will pick his spots and find a timely knockout.

Jorge Santiago

Demian Maia is deadly and can end any fight instantly via submission. He is incredibly dangerous on the ground, but his stand-up still needs a lot of work.

And that's where he'll lose it.

Santiago, coming off a KO defeat at the hands of Brian Stann, is also good on the ground, so he's not exactly done for if the fight moves there.

Unlike Maia, however, Santiago is competent in the stand-up, with nine KOs on his resume. He should be able to weather the storm if the fight moves to the ground and be able to wait for a KO win from his feet.
