De La Hoya-Pacquiao: Dream Match or Nightmare?

Gilbert VasquezDec 2, 2008

The Dream Match: Oscar De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao is really going to happen, WOW!ย

I keep trying to see what Freddie Roach saw in De La Hoya to convince himself, and Manny for that matter, that this was a good fight for him. Was it the money? Was it the fact that Oscar is older? or maybe that Oscar's pretty face was not so pretty after his last fight? Maybe it had nothing to do with Oscar.

What if Freddie Roach just thinks that much of Manny? If i could step into the mind of Freddie Roach to see where he thinks Manny could win this fight. Maybe i would see this:

Manny Pacquiao, fast, active, one punch knock out power. Manny is younger then De La Hoya. Manny has the experience of fighting Marquez, Morales, and Barrera. That in itself makes you ready for most fights. Pacquiao fights every second of every round. He works hard in camp, he give it his all in every fight as if his life counted on it.

Pacquiao has heart with an unbreakable will. He knows where he stands and by saying this, Manny knows so many people are depending on him. Manny carries his country on his back.

Speaking of backs, Oscar will be trying to put Manny on his come Dec 6. De La Hoya might not be in his prime but the guy can still compete. He still got his left hook and great chin.

Is Oscar the Oscar that fought Quartey? No! But he is not fighting Quartey this coming Saturday. He is fighting Manny Pacquiao, a guy who is smaller and has never fought at this weight class. A fighter with a smaller reach and a suspect chin. Manny has been hurt in every weight class he has ever fought in, OK maybe not lightweight but he only has one fight there and that was to the flat footed, punching bag named David Diaz.

Can Pacquiao win? Certainly he can. After i saw Tyson lose to Douglas, anything can happen. With all that said I'm having a hard time picking Manny to win this one. Yes, Manny is younger, fresher and is way more active and yes, De La Hoya looked banged up in his last fight with the light punching Forbes.

I just think that Manny will not get away from the big shots. Forbes moves better then Pacquiao. I've heard that Freddie Roach wants Manny to attack the body, really? If so, that just places Manny closer to that left hook or to be countered with body work himself.

Maybe the curtain is closing for the Golden Boy but not this Saturday, not against Manny Pacquiao.
