Manny Pacquiao: Agitated Pacquiao Camp Needs to Ignore Team Mayweather's Antics
Just before Pacquiao vs. Marquez, Team Mayweather announced that they had a date and venue for Money May's return to the ring. The timing of this announcement was obviously designed to allow Mayweather to steal the spotlight. The subsequent response from Team Pacquiao is taking away from the task at hand.
Pacquiao has to focus on Marquez. We're talking about a tangible fight that is right around the corner, rather than a fight that has been in limbo since 2009.
Clearly Pacquiao and his team have a reason to be angry. Mayweather is planning the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight and stirring the pot again without even consulting Pacquiao, and doing so at the worst imaginable time possible.
Pacquiao wasn't setting up a date in 2012 for this fight just before Mayweather was set to fight Victor Ortiz. We've learned in the past that this fight isn't simple and to please both camps is going to be nearly impossible.
Bob Arum had this to say about Mayweather's return to the ring:
""It's a difficult fight to make, first of all, they've already said that it's May 5. They already said that it's at the MGM. How dare them? I'm really outraged that they made the announcement now right before Manny's fight, and we'll remember that."
"
This is exactly the sort of response they wanted to draw. Why even acknowledge Mayweather's return?
There is a huge fight coming up. Mayweather returning to the ring and making plans should be a non-issue. Pacquiao worrying about the next fight gives Marquez an edge.
Mayweather's camp grabbing a microphone didn't warrant a response until after the fight was over. It's time to shift gears and get back to the task at hand, rather than talking about a theoretical fight that will never happen.
