BCS Rankings 2011 Release Date: Full Details on When BCS Comes out
The BCS standings are the most prestigious rankings in college football, and the rankings that really have an impact on who lands in which bowl game.
They are scheduled to be released this year on October 16th, and will give us all an early look at which teams are most likely to reach the BCS National Championship Game.
There are three major goals of the BCS standings:
- Determine the top two teams in the country, who will face each other in the BCS Championship Game.
- Determine the other automatic qualifiers
- Determine which teams are eligible for an at-large selection into the remaining BCS games
The LSU Tigers are currently the No. 1 team in the country, and are likely to remain in that spot on the BCS poll barring an upset in the next two weeks.
Things should get interesting behind LSU as Oklahoma and Alabama will be competing for the No. 2 spot. The Sooners certainly made a statement today with their huge victory over the Texas Longhorns, while the Crimson Tide made a statement previously against Arkansas and Florida in the past couple weeks.
The most intriguing team this year may once again be Boise State. They attempted to start their season with a matchup against an SEC favorite, but Georgia has disappointed to this point, and the Broncos may fail to crack the top 5 due to the lack of quality opponents on their schedule.
The release of the first BCS standings is one of the biggest events of the year, so be sure to tune into the release show, which will appear on ESPN. The details of the release show have not yet been finalized, but you can be sure that ESPN sets at least an hour aside to debut the 2011 BCS standings.
