2011 NFL Fantasy Football Early Sell-High Candidates

Ryan LesterOct 8, 2011

Last week we looked at the Buy Low guys. Time to flip the script and check out the Sell High Guys.

Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

You’re going to need a king’s ransom, but if you can get it I’d make the move. He’s on pace to throw for 5,500 yards and 20 TDs while running for 500-plus yards and 16 TDs. I don’t think he’ll struggle to put up huge numbers this year, but he likely can’t keep this pace up. You need to come away with a haul if you deal him, though.

Ryan Mathews, RB, San Diego Chargers

I don’t doubt Mathews’ ability. I doubt his durability. He’s 135.5 total yards per game. Norv Turner wants to increase his workload, which sound good, but some times too much is too much. Given his injury history it may not be a bad idea to see what you can get for him. The same thing goes for Beanie Wells.

Darren Sproles, RB, New Orleans Saints

This advice does not apply to PPR leagues as Sproles is gold in that format. As the Saints' receivers get healthy, it only makes sense that Sproles will lose some looks in the passing game. There are just so many weapons to go to. Plus, the Saints will need to get their power running game work for the playoffs, so expect more from Mark Ingram in the future.

Eric Decker, WR, Denver Broncos

Decker is a solid football player, but he has a lengthy injury history as well. He also may have taken some teams by surprise. He has five touchdowns (four receiving, one return) through four games. I’d be surprised if he reached that total over the last 12 games.

Denarius Moore, WR, Oakland Raiders

Moore has 247 total yards and three touchdowns making him a top twenty receiver in non-PPR leagues. Sure he’s scored a touchdowns in the past three games, but he has only topped 35 yards receiving once.

Tony Gonzalez, TE, Atlanta Falcons

I like Gonzo, but I don’t see how at 35 he can continue to average nearly 60 yards and a touchdown per game. Don’t just give him away, but if you can get a solid TE and an upgrade elsewhere I say take the deal.
