Boise State Football: Who Will Knock Broncos Out of the BCS?
Yes, Boise State is undefeated.
Yes, Boise State is ranked at No. 5.
Yes, Boise State has an easier schedule than the rest of...well, college football.
While looking at the remaining games in the Broncos schedule, it is difficult to find the team that will knock Boise State out of the BCS title run. Preseason, it looked like TCU would be a formidable opponent.
That is, until TCU was being blown out 24-0 in the first half against Baylor.
Statistically, Air Force is Boise State's toughest opponent.
Air Force.
Averaging 364 yards per game, Air Force is ranked No. 3 in the nation on the ground.
TCU does rack up 41 points per game, which is 12th in the nation. However, TCU fell out out of the rankings after being No. 14 before Week 1. In addition, the Horned Frogs' defense cannot stop the passing game. Twice this season, the defense has allowed 40 points in a game.
Boise State has the following games left on the schedule: Colorado State, Air Force, UNLV, TCU, San Diego State, Wyoming and New Mexico.
So which remaining opponent will knock the Broncos out of the BCS National Championship Game?
Boise State.
That's right-- the Broncos will inadvertently remove themselves. Boise State will do everything they're asked to do. They will go undefeated this season. They will outscore their opponents by at least two touchdowns in each game. They will carry themselves with class and pride.
But they will never reach the BCS title game.
The schedule is just not impressive enough. TCU is the Broncos' best competitor, and they're not looking so great. The Broncos did beat Georgia in the season opener, but the Bulldogs are already 3-2, and will most likely end up .500 this year.
Don't get me wrong; I love Cinderella stories as much as the next guy. But the end of the day, Boise State is its own worse enemy.
