Fantasy Football's Week 14: Waiver Wire

Football ManiaxsDec 2, 2008

By Garth Gregor

Fantasy Football's Week 14 Waiver Wire pickups are here! The wire picks are players who are or were still available in most leagues this week. Depending on how your waiver wire/free agents’ pool works, players may not clear waivers until later this week.

Instead, these players should be monitored or stashed away on your bench for a playoff run or potential upside due to matchup problems.

QUARTERBACKS

Joe Flacco - Two turnovers in his last seven games, for a rookie? Flacco went off in Week 13 for 280 yards and two touchdowns. Most of it was aimed at Mark Clayton, but who cares?

Flacco starts against the Redskins on Sunday Night Football at home. Available in 55 percent of ESPN leagues, this one should be interesting.

Matt Hasselbeck - With many quarterbacks struggling, Hasselbeck is surfacing at just the right time.  Throwing for 287 yards against the Cowboys, he now faces New England in Seattle.  Bench him for this start, and if he plays well, start him against weak Rams and Jets defenses in Weeks 15 and 16. Available in 52 percent of ESPN leagues.

Shaun Hill - Week 13 was not pretty, but Hill did not turn the ball over, threw for 161 yards, and a touchdown.  You need more than that from a fantasy starter, but with the Jets on the schedule in Week 14, he could be a sneaky play. Available in 30 percent of ESPN leagues, he has been improving in all areas.

RUNNING BACKS

Peyton Hillis - If the Broncos can avoid messing with a good thing, Hillis is a great play. Cutler attracts all the attention, and Hillis has enjoyed four touchdown runs in his first three starts. Available in 38 percent of ESPN leagues, he has been helping plenty of fantasy teams with their playoff runs.

Chester Taylor - Whether you are backing up Adrian Peterson for the playoffs or need a warm body, Taylor has been playing well.  He has a dream matchup, even for a backup, in Week 14. Facing the Lions, he could make it three straight weeks with a score. He is available in 48 percent of ESPN leagues.

Tashard Choice - With Marion Barber III's toe problem, Choice should be on plenty of benches this week. If Barber is ruled out early enough, Choice would be the feature back in one of the best offenses in the league. He is available in 98 percent of ESPN leagues, so watch the Dallas injury reports.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Davone Bess - Mentioned last week, Bess has played extremely well when given the chance. He has 11 catches and 171 yards in his last two games, and defenses will focus stopping the running game. Playing away against Buffalo is not an ideal matchup, but this rookie is available 93 percent of ESPN leagues and could be a difference maker during the playoffs.
