Notre Dame Football: A Winning Notre Dame Program Is Great for College Football
There are certain brands in college football that are simply related to greatness.
Schools like Nebraska, USC, Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas and a select few others have all built up a reputation of being some of the best in the business and their names alone are what drive the big business of college football.
One prestigious name that college football fans know all too well is Notre Dame.
Throughout the 20th century, the Indiana school has established itself as one of the most prestigious names in college athletics.
The Fighting Irish are treated like college royalty no matter what the sport.
When Notre Dame is good, you know about it.
Even when the Irish aren’t that good, you know about it.
This summer, we were treated to all the interviews, behind the scenes specials and magazine covers we could stand to stomach, telling us all about how awesome Notre Dame was going to be this year.
And you know what, they haven’t proved to be so awesome so far, and I’ll you what, that’s a shame.
College Football needs Notre Dame to be relevant again.
No more fake artists like Ty Willingham or Charlie Weis.
We want Notre Dame to be Notre Dame again.
We want Knute, we want Rudy, we want the Notre Dame of old to reemerge its ugly head again.
Because we, as a college football nation, need a team to love and hate all at the same time.
Notre Dame is one of those key names that drive the sport, and when the Irish are great, the sport of college football is better off for it.
Notre Dame is the New York Yankees of college athletics.
The Irish have that crazy way of bringing out both the best and the worst in sports fans, and you have to appreciate that for what it is.
When Notre Dame is good, it helps elevate college football to another level, because it gives the sport a hero and a villain.
When Notre Dame is mediocre, it’s boring.
The Irish are boring this year and that’s a shame.
3-2?
Who cares?
I want Brian Kelly to fulfill his promise of being the supposed savior we were all told he was going to be.
I want to see Notre Dame great again, because it’s great for the sport.
Sure, Notre Dame has been way too embellished the past few seasons, but that’s simply a product of the college football hype machine.
That’s what happens when you lie in the same bed with one of the country’s top networks like NBC.
One of these years, Notre Dame is actually going to live up to the hype and it's going to be great for college football.
When we tune in on Saturdays and the Irish are ranked in the Top 10, you're going to wish that's the way it's always been.
We want Notre Dame to be great for the same we want the Yankees to be in the playoffs every year.
When it comes to teams, people either need a team to love or hate, and Notre Dame fits that role perfectly.
Let's hope that Brian Kelly can right the ship and actually kick-start this stagnant program and get the Irish back into prominent position to start contending again.
