NFL Predictions Week 5: Buffalo Bills and 3 Upset Specials

Richard LangfordOct 8, 2011

I cannot believe the Bills are underdogs to the Eagles at home. It baffles me. They are going to win that game by at least a touchdown. They aren't the only underdog this week that shouldn't be underdogs. Check out the three teams ready for Week 5 upsets.

Philadelphia Eagles at Buffalo Bills

Spread: Eagles -3

This game is the five star pick of the year. The Eagles apparently still have some dream team residue fogging the betting public's vision. This is not a good team.

Yet, here they are favored on the road to beat the 3-1 Bills. The Eagles' run D has been absolutely atrocious. They are 30th in the NFL. Fred Jackson is going to feast on the Eagles weak defensive line.

The Bills are fifth in the NFL in rushing yards. They are going to have their way against the Eagles. The Eagles should be able to score some points of their own, but they will not be able to keep up with the Bills.

Cincinnati Bengals at Jacksonville Jaguars

Spread: Jaguars -2

The Jaguars' offense is about as one-dimensional as it gets right now. They need to run the ball to have any success. They will not be able to do that against the Bengals.

The Bengals defense is playing lights out. They are allowing only 86 rushing yards a game. That is seventh best in the NFL. They will be able to stack the box in this one and shut down the Jaguars running game.

This will force Blaine Gabbert to beat the Bengals, and he is not ready to do that. Also, the Bengals pass defense is even better than their rush defense. The Jaguars will be hard pressed not to be shut out in this one.

Oakland Raiders at Houston Texans

Spread: Texans -6

The line on this game is skewed by the fact that the Texans are coming off of a win against a Steeler team that is not nearly as good as the public perceives them to be, and the Raiders are coming off of a big loss to a New England team that was a horrible matchup for them.

Also, this game has all the markings of a trap game for the Texans. It is sandwiched between the Steelers and Ravens. Try as they might, it will be hard for the Texans to not get stuck looking behind and ahead.

The Texans should be able to run on the Raiders' poor rush defense, but Andre Johnson's absence means the Raiders don't have to worry about leaving a safety over the top and can move him into the box.

Also, the Raiders should be able to run the ball just as easily on the Texans defense.
