Top 5 Clever Topics for So Very Clever Guy's Girls Heading into Week 6

Hilary LiDestriOct 7, 2011

OK, there is no luckier "So Very Clever Guy's Girl" than ME - right now.  I'm firing back some beers with some of the coolest dudes on EARTH:  Chad Hastings, Erin Hogan, Chip Brown and Sean Adams of ESPN Austin, THE HORN.

Not only are they THE voices of college football, but handsome–let me tell you ... So, anyway ...

It's time to get started on Week 6.  Let's go.  Dazzle the men in your life with these insights.

HEISMAN WATCH

1 of 5

There have been some Heisman shake-ups this week–nothing major and, again, it’s a little early to get all jacked out of shape about it.  Most notable to me is that Tyrann Mathieu moved ahead of Denard Robinson in the ESPN Heisman watch.  Here is the problem for me:

Tyrann is likely going to have a huge day tomorrow against Florida, so there is a good chance he is going to continue to move up. However, he needs to remember there has only been ONE cornerback to win the Heisman and that was Charles Woodson (Green Bay), a former Wolverine.

Andrew Luck is not likely to lose steam and, as it stands, if it weren't for Boise State moving out of the WAC (Western Athletic Conference), Kellen Moore would be giving Andrew a legitimate run for his Heisman top slot.

Muschamp is Going to Take a Header - Welcome to the SEC

2 of 5

OK, Will Muschamp is going to take a header tomorrow.  Not sure if he will ever be able to beat Nick Saban head on.  This is not me speaking kindly of Nick Saban.  Hell, there might not be a coach out there I dislike as much.

A little history: Nick used to be the coach for my alma mater, which he unceremoniously abandoned to head to LSU before we even played our bowl game. Then he went to the the NFL and punked out.  Now he’s with Alabama and trying to pretend he’s not a hired gun and that he failed in the NFL.  OK, that sounds really judgmental.

And, by hired gun I mean–no loyalty.  Not a company man for sure.  So Very Clever Guy's Girls might inquire as to who is THE hired gun in college football.  Inquire.  NOT assert.

Welcome to the SEC, A&M - is There a Chill in the Air?

3 of 5

Why is the SEC so powerful?  Easy.  Passion.

That area of the country is lacking in professional sports fervor, so the entire populous pours their sports fanaticism into college football.  It is the ONLY sport.

That passion trickles down to the young and they are bred to continue the traditions of the conference.  There is tremendous loyalty to the SEC schools and those schools get A LOT of press.

Why wouldn’t A&M want to get some of that?

Anyone would want a piece of the SEC pie and A&M is convinced they have been sitting in the shade cast by Oklahoma and Texas.  However, they are about to find out how COLD the shade can get and it will be a good seven to 10 years before they can build a tower to reach some sun.

Man Candy and Apple Pie

4 of 5

TX/OU.  What’s in it for you, So Very Clever Guys Girls?  Sideline Man Candy.  Who?  Well, let me tell you, when Texas did the “out with the old and in with the new,” the NEW is So Very YUMMY.  (This is not my opinion–but that of the masses).

Who am I talking about?

Major Applewhite, former Texas quarterback, is now co-offensive/ running back coach. Bryan Harsin is co-offensive/ quarterbacks coach and Manny Diaz is defensive quarterback.  Let me tell you something, this works out well for So Very Clever Guy’s Girls who aren’t interested in “McFelony,” Blake Gideon.  We are all adults here and NO ONE needs to be leering at college boys.

Stick to the sidelines while, sadly, OU is likely to win this game.  They are relying on their “old guard” coaching.  They have the formula in place and Texas is rebuilding–one brick at a time.

Pressure is on OU, Man Candy is coming for you, Landry.

Who's Your Daddy? Apparently it Matters

Tech and A&M–some people think I’m biased when it comes to the Big Ten–now called the Twelve Pack, by me–but that isn’t true.  Lot’s of Big 12 and SEC talk.  Wow, Tech.  What can I say?  Yes, four and oh, but I’m still stunned by the coaching shake-up that goes a lot deeper than you think.

OK, here are the players:  Craig James.  He’s pissed off because his punk kid, Adam, who was raised as a punk, isn’t getting any play at Tech.  Craig decides this is not acceptable and capitalizes on an incident involving the post-concussion “care” of his son.. The net result is Mike Leach, the head coach, gets canned.

Craig James, some may or may not know, was mixed up in the biggest college football scandal of all time–Southern Methodist University and their slush fund created by alumni in order to “buy” a team to beat TEXAS.  Though he says he never took money for anyone for any reason, Craig James somehow ended up with an agent (Sherwood Blount Jr.) who was at the center of the entire scandal.

Frankly, his credibility is zero and that extends to his claims his son was abused by Mike Leach et al.  Fact of the matter–A&M opens up a six pack of whoop ass tomorrow.

Sorry, Tech.  Four and one tomorrow.  What could change the tide?  Emotion.
