NFL Predictions: 3 Eliminator League Picks

Adam SimoneOct 7, 2011

This is for everyone who is in an eliminator league. The point of eliminator leagues is to pick a different team each week that you expect to win. You can only pick a team once during the season so you have to choose wisely.

I will offer my top three eliminator games of the week including my lock of the week. So far this season I've remained undefeated in my locks of the week but none of the games have been easy.

Previous Locks of the Week: 4-0

Week 1: Cardinals, W 28-21

Week 2: Redskins, W 22-21

Week 3: Chargers, W 20-17

Week 4: Buccaneers, W 24-17

No. 3 Saints (3-1) at Panthers (1-3)

1 of 3

You will see me mention this almost every week, but I don't like taking road teams in an eliminator type league. Road teams are 25-39 this year, which is only a 39 percent winning percentage.

With that said, I'm going to take a road team here. The road team in this matchup is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings. Also in this matchup, the road team is 4-0 straight up when favored during the last five years. The Panthers are 1-7 ATS against teams with a winning record.

The Saints have won three straight games and Drew Brees is off to another good start. He's throwing for 352 yards per game with 10 touchdowns, but the difference this week could be the Saints running game.

The Panthers rank 31st in the NFL in rushing yards allowed so look for rookie Mark Ingram to possibly have a breakout game.

The Panthers are much improved this year with rookie Cam Newton at quarterback, but I don't think he's ready to compete with Brees and the Saints.

Prediction: Saints 28-21

No. 2 Jets (2-2) at Patriots (3-1)

2 of 3

I really didn't expect to have this game so high but most of the other big favorites are on the road, and I like to stay away from road teams in an eliminator league.

The home team is 4-1 in the last five games in this matchup but the Jets did beat the Patriots last year in New England.

With that said, it's hard to win against the Patriots right now with the way Tom Brady is rolling. Brady is averaging 388 yards per game and has thrown 13 touchdown passes. He has thrown five interceptions, though, so he needs to eliminate the mistakes this week against a good Jets pass defense.

The Jets have not been very impressive so far this year. Sanchez is only completing 55 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Prediction: Patriots 31-21

No. 1 Seahawks (1-3) at Giants (3-1)

3 of 3

This is my lock of the week and it's obviously the safe pick. The Giants are at home and are favored by 9.5 points.

The Giants are off to a good 3-1 start and Eli Manning has been red hot the last three weeks. Manning has thrown eight touchdowns and only two interceptions this season.

Seattle's pass defense has been decent this year and might slow down Manning and the Giants, but I don't think the Seahawks have enough fire power to win this game on the road. The home team in this series is 9-1 straight up in their past 10 matchups.

Prediction: Giants 27-17
