Brett Favre: Egotistical Comments About Aaron Rodgers Couldn't Be More Wrong
Brett Favre is a future Hall of Fame quarterback. The one-time Super Bowl champion will forever be recognized as one of the best gunslingers the game has ever seen.
Now, can he just please go away.
We had to deal with season after season of the retirement nonsense. He would retire, then come back. Then he'd retire again, only to once again return.
Brett Favre is a person of the past, and the only person who can't deal with that is Brett Favre.
When you finally think he is gone, suddenly he appears out of nowhere to put himself back in the headlines. If you need proof, the fact that I'm writing this says it all.
During an interview with an Atlanta radio station, Favre commented on the Packers' Super Bowl win behind Aaron Rodgers. USA Today reported the following.
“I’m going to be honest, I was not surprised. The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn’t do it sooner," Favre said.
He went on, "he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he's a good player. I don't think there's any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there."
Really, Brett?
Favre's last year with the Packers was in 2007. Rodgers won the Super Bowl with the team in 2010.
Ryan Grant, Donald Lee, Brandon Jackson, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings and James Jones were all a part of the offense.
There were some minor differences. Rodgers did it with less of a running game, since Ryan Grant was injured the majority of the year. His starting tight end, Jermichael Finley, was injured all season.
So, if you really look at it, the Packers offense had less talent in 2010 than it did in 2007. Except for one position, and that's quarterback.
It seems pretty clear to me that Favre is upset.
Why?
Because almost everyone in Green Bay and around the country is already seeing Aaron Rodgers as a better quarterback than Favre ever was.
Take a look at what Rodgers has done over the first few years of his career.
Last season, was statistically the worst of his career. Rodgers threw for just 3,922 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Over the course of his career Rodgers has a 14,048 yards, 99 touchdowns and only 34 interceptions. This has been over the course of essentially just three and a half seasons. His 100.5 quarterback rating is among the top of active quarterbacks.
It's obvious that the comments bothered Rodgers. When asked if he thought the shadow casted by Favre would ever go away, Rodgers gave the perfect response.
"I don't think so. And I think on some level, you need to embrace the fact that you're mentioned with a future Hall of Famer in the same sentence -- a lot."
Rodgers not only is the better player, but he has a lot more class to go with it.
