Ben Roethlisberger Injury: Projecting Numbers for Mike Wallace

Chris TrapassoOct 7, 2011

Much has been made of how the Steelers will play with a hobbled Ben Roethlisberger

To me, as long as Big Ben is on the field, everything will be okay.

Sure, the Steelers offense has been far from great through the first four games of the season, but Mike Wallace has been very explosive and extremely reliable.

For the nervous Wallace owners out there; Roethlisberger's foot injury will not affect the wide receiver's fantasy stock.

Wallace has matured into an all-around receiver. That is, someone who can move the chains with crisp comeback routes and create big plays on short, underneath targets.

He's no longer just a deep threat.

The Titans boast a strong yet unheralded defensive front that could give Roethlisberger issues, and yes, maybe he won't have enough time to take as many deep shots to Wallace.

However, this is a player who can accumulate yardage and fantasy points in a variety of ways.

I do think Pittsburgh's offensive line will be able to hold up better than they did against the Texans on the road. It's likely that Wallace will get free at least once with Big Ben looking his way.

Antonio Brown is slowly emerging as another dangerous wideout and should divert some attention from No. 17.

I think Isaac Redman has a chance to bring some respectability to the running game, which should keep the secondary honest.

They'll utilize play-action if and when they decide to take that shot to Wallace. I expect him to still see between seven and nine targets in this one, and for him to make the most of them.

Take a deep breath. Wallace will be just fine.

Projection: Five catches, 102 yards, one TD.
