New York Jets 2011 Season: Letter to the Jets from a Disgruntled Jets Fan

Jonathan PeraltaOct 7, 2011

Well, kinda.

Dear Jets Organization,

I know it's still early in the season, but I'm just going to come out and say it: The Jets are playing like hot garbage and I don't think it's the Jets' year...again. No, Rex, your team will not win the Super Bowl. I've seen enough to come to the conclusion that the Jets probably aren't going to win anything this year. Hell, it will be a shocker if you guys even make the playoffs.

In fact, I'm at the brink of giving up on this football season, and putting my full attention on my two mediocre fantasy football teams.

Thanks a lot. Jerks.

Because of your success the past couple of years, I, nay, we Jets fans had a lot to hope for. A lot to dream of. A lot to look forward to this season. Many football teams around the league and their fans would love to get to back-to-back conference championships—so close to making it to the Super Bowl, after years and years of mediocrity.

Not us. It's not good enough to just make it to the AFC championship two years in a row and stalling, being one game away from the Super Bowl—somewhere the Jets haven't been in over four decades. Call us greedy, but we want you guys to win the Super Bowl, damn it! We want to know how it feels to win. True story.

Anything less will feel like just another tease.

Yes, before we hired Rex Ryan as head coach and before we drafted the inept "Sanchize," following the Jets was a constant roller-coaster ride filled with highs and lows. But, it was mostly disappointment: Pennington's accurate—but made of paper mache—arm, a squandered 10-point halftime lead in the 1998 AFC title game, Rich Kotite's tenure, Al Groh, Bill Belichick's resignation on a napkin, the string of terrible QBs, "Mangenius," etc.

Now what? We're 2-2, coming off an embarrassing loss in which the Ravens curb-stomped you guys, and now you're going into New England this week—Tom Brady and Wes Welker have been on fire, if you haven't noticed. Womp womp.

The defense doesn't seem to be what it was the past two years, you look slow and the pass rush is nothing to be afraid of. The offense just looks atrocious, so far.  What should us Jets fans expect the rest of the season?

The Jets need to make some changes: fire Schottenheimer, bench Sanchez—well, maybe not go that far. Throw McKnight into the RB mix, get some new O-linemen who know how to block (I'm looking at you Wayne Hunter), add Maybin to some defense packages, give Holmes the damn ball so he can shut up and stop his whining.

Plaxico, do something please. Punch Cromartie in the ear every time he commits a penalty, maybe he'll learn. Stop the war of words with Namath for crying out loud; at least he won something decades ago. And Rex, would you please stop the predictions. Fix your team before the season spins out of control.

Love,

Disgruntled Jets Fan

P.S.: A very big thank you to the Three Stooges (Rex, Tannenbaum, Woody Johnson) for ruining any chemistry and leadership the Jets had the past few years, by letting go of some fan favorites like Shaun Ellis, Jerricho Cotchery, Damien Woody, Faneca, T. Jones, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith.

Good job.

Now leave me alone and let me go sulk in the corner somewhere.
