College Football Picks Against the Spread: 3 Ranked Teams on Week 6 Upset Alert

Eric BowmanOct 7, 2011

There are a number of good games this Saturday, but some of these ranked teams are on big-time upset alert.

The 2011 college football season is off to a great start, and the exciting games will continue with each week. Fans have already seem some shocking upsets, and that trend could very well continue in Week 6.

Here are three ranked teams in danger of being upset on Saturday.

No. 12 Michigan at Northwestern

The Wolverines are favored by a touchdown, but because the Wildcats should have Dan Persa back at quarterback, this will be a close game. Michigan is 4-1 ATS this year, but this happens to be their first road game of the year.

Northwestern's defense will need to step up this weekend and defend their home field, but they're coming off an emotional last-second loss to Illinois.

The Wildcats gave up just under 400 passing yards to a team that was averaging around 150, which tells me that Denard Robinson should have a very good game.

In the end, the game comes down to which defense can make the big plays. The Wolverines' defense has been much improved from a year ago, but they're still not where they need to be. Michigan wins, but give me Northwestern +7 at home for sure.

Michigan 30, Northwestern 28

Miami at No. 21 Virginia Tech

The Hokies are also favored by a touchdown, and they will do their best to redeem their home field after a very embarrassing loss last week, where they failed to score a touchdown against the Clemson Tigers.

Both the Hokies and the Hurricanes need this win to avoid being 0-2 in ACC play, but Virginia Tech needs it more to prove it was worthy of being a preseason top 25 team.

Virginia Tech has won once against the spread this season, and I don't see them making up any ground on Saturday. It's a game they should win, but expect several mistakes from both teams, which will keep this game close. Take the Hurricanes at +7 because they're playing much better football under Al Golden.

Virginia Tech 24, Miami 20

No. 15 Auburn at No. 10 Arkansas

The Razorbacks are favored at -10, which is entirely too high for my liking. The Tigers just proved they can win on the road last week with an upset over then-No. 10 South Carolina, and now they have a ton of confidence heading into Saturday's game.

Arkansas had a fantastic comeback over Texas A&M last week, and even though the Razorbacks are at home, this will be a close game throughout.

This SEC West showdown will be very fun to watch because Tyler Wilson is very likely to throw for over 400 yards again, but the Razorbacks won't be able to stop Michael Dyer.

This will be a back-and-forth matchup that comes down to the final minutes of the game. In the end, the Razorbacks will prevail, but they won't cover the spread.

Arkansas 38, Auburn 35
