Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings: Donovan McNabb and 3 Old Vets That Will Shine

Michael DixonOct 7, 2011

Before we get going too far, let me say that I am not referring to Tom Brady when I talk about old vets. Yes, Brady is getting up there and he's certainly a veteran, but he's in the prime of his career.

No, we're looking at guys at around that age, who are almost universally thought to be past their primes. Yet, because of revivals or good matchups, Week 5 is going to bring them good things.

Matt Hasselbeck

This is more of a hunch than anything else. Truthfully, even without James Harrison, the Steelers defense is perfectly capable of stopping a pass game.

But Hasselbeck is enjoying a nice season, which makes me think that he'll put up another solid performance. With Chris Johnson finally having a good game in Week 4, the Steelers will have to play up to contain Johnson.

They will also need to shuffle people to make up for Harrison's absence. Hasselbeck is certainly capable of exploiting whatever holes come with that.

The Patriots defense has been vulnerable against running backs this year, at least as it relates to fantasy.

Given Tomlinson's ability to catch the ball, he's an excellent dual threat back. I think the Patriots will win this game, but I do expect good things from Tomlinson.

He's a Hall of Fame back that's past his prime, but he's still capable of being a fantasy giant in a short-term scenario.

McNabb's first game was a disaster, but he's posted some strong fantasy numbers since.

In addition to that, the Cardinals' pass defense has been burned by every opponent they have played this year, with the exception of the Tarvaris Jackson and the Seahawks.

Actually, even Jackson's day wasn't bad.

I am not sure what McNabb has left in the tank, but he does have at least one more good game. We will see that on Sunday.
