NFL Picks Week 5: Which Teams Will Be Served Up for Slaughter?

Chris TrapassoOct 7, 2011

It won't be pretty.

It might get ugly.

A few teams in Week 5 are facing very stiff tests that could end in embarrassing fashion; some on the road, some at home.

Seattle Seahawks

Traveling from Pacific Standard Time to play in a one o'clock football game on Eastern Standard Time is never easy.

History tells us that.

The Seahawks are already going into this game at a disadvantage.

However, the overall talent on the field will be their biggest disadvantage in this one.

Eli Manning has settled into a comfort zone with his wide receivers and New York's pass rush will be in the backfield all afternoon.

Big win for the G-Men.

A postgame nap for Seattle.

New York Jets

This will be a chess match between Rex Ryan and Tom Brady.

The Jets were extremely successful in confusing Brady in their playoff win last year and they will likely employ a similar game plan in this one.

However, to beat the Patriots, you have to score a lot of points. Right now, I don't think Mark Sanchez and the Jets' stagnant running game can do that.

There's a chance this game is competitive, purely because both team's are so familiar with each other, but I think it could easily get out of hand.

Chicago Bears

Maybe I'm crazy for buying into the Lions, especially considering how badly they've played in the first half of nearly all their games, but this is a pretty bad matchup for the Bears.

Nick Fairley adds even more fierce pass-rushing ability to that stout defensive front. Meanwhile, Jay Cutler hasn't once looked comfortable in the pocket this season.

He's been sacked 15 times.

The Bears secondary hasn't been great—they're allowing several yards-per-contest and no one matches up well with Calvin Johnson.

In front of their home crowd, against a division rival on Monday Night, the Lions will be ready to show the nation they're for real.
