Anderson Silva vs GSP: Is This Fight Becoming a Real Possibility?

G DOct 7, 2011

Since entering the UFC, Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva have catapulted themselves into a league of their own.

They have defeated nearly every opponent on the way to the top of their respected divisions.

Silva, who hasn't lost since January of 2006, has won 15 consecutive fights and has defended his UFC Middleweight Championship nine straight times.

Similar to Silva, St-Pierre hasn't lost in a long, long time. In fact, his last defeat came against Matt Serra at UFC 69 over four years ago.

The two have combined for 24 straight fights without a loss, establishing themselves as the top two fighters in mixed martial arts today.

Because of their dominance over the past several years, UFC fans across the globe want to see the two square off in an electrifying "Super Fight."

Silva, who's already stated he won't fight again until 2012, is currently recovering from an injury that he fought through in his win over Yushin Okami at UFC 134 in Brazil.

And St-Pierre is set to square off with Carlos Condit at UFC 137 in a welterweight title fight.

A win over Condit in Las Vegas, Nevada would make the GSP vs. Silva dream fight all the more realistic as neither fighter would have lost in nearly five years.

In fact, St-Pierre has already addressed the possibility of entering the octagon against Silva.

St-Pierre stated the UFC would have to give him the proper time to gain the weight needed to fight against Silva.

He also said that Silva couldn't fight during that time frame because a loss would demolish the concept of their "Super Fight."

Could we see the Fight of the Decade in GSP vs. Silva as soon as 2012?

A win over Condit would certainly help the fight's chances. But, in the end, it ultimately comes down to what the UFC wants.

Is GSP vs. Silva becoming a real possibility?
