Week 5 Fantasy Football Start Em Sit Em: Matt Cassel and 3 QB's to Bench

Gabe ZaldivarOct 6, 2011

Four weeks in and we know who the losers are. Fantasy owners need to be mindful of the landmines that are out there in the form of fantasy players. Matt Cassel is one of them.

There are rough waters ahead for fantasy owners. The first bye week gives owners with their first real test of the season. The first four weeks...that's child's play.

You can love your players and leave them. Now, you have to go digging through the garbage can of the waiver wire for potential studs.

Please don't approach that with a nonchalant attitude. These players can hurt you more than you know heading into a pivotal part of the fantasy season.

Here are three quarterbacks who are best ignored this weekend.

1. Matt Cassel

For the better part of four weeks, fantasy owners and Chiefs fans have wondered when Matt Cassel would break from the doldrums. The short answer is, not yet.

Sure, he had a good game against the Vikings on Sunday. But the Colts have looked far better in their pass rush as of late. This team is hungry for a win, and they are looking to their defense to lead that charge.

I am confident that Cassel will take a step back to the production he had in the first two weeks when the offense was in tatters. The Colts will make it a messy game.

The Steelers are tumbling down the power rankings at an alarming rate. They lost one of their key producers on defense, and their offense may be worse off.

With Roethlisberger wearing a boot in practice couple with a shoddy line, it is the perfect week to bench him. Or he may just ruin a perfectly good Sunday for you.

3. Kyle Orton

Orton may have put up three interceptions last week to the Packers, but that is hardly my concern. He still had a fairly good fantasy day with three touchdowns and over 270 yards. The Packers have a "feast or famine" secondary, though.

The Chargers are a different story. They will be far tougher on Orton, giving him a fantasy day he will have to earn. He may still be as wild as he was without the positive production to save your day. Stay clear.
