Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings: Chris Johnson and 5 Players Sure to Flop

Gabe ZaldivarOct 6, 2011

Chris Johnson is stealing from the Tennessee Titans, and he is hurting fantasy owners across the nation. There is no other way to describe just how awful this man has been.

Johnson held out for the summer demanding to get paid commensurate with his talent level. I think the Titans may want a refund at this point.

I know. As a fantasy owner that took a shot at a star running back that had the promise to relive his past glory, I was duped.

Johnson is not the only player that will continue to be awful in Week 5; we have four other duds that will fail to get out of the gate this weekend.

The task is easy: Stay clear of these guys. You want to treat them like they were walking around with the plague. In fact, if you see them on the street before Sunday, walk on the other side. You don't want to have any of their funk get on you.

It is always wise to practice safe fantasy football.

That is why I am staying clear of the following guys who have proved they can be counted on for just one thing, and that is providing lackluster fantasy results.

If you want to save yourself from pulling out your hair and kicking the cat on Sunday, you will ignore the following names.

It may be a bye week, but absolutely no points is only slightly worse than what the following fellows will provide on Sunday. You have been warned.

Here are five guys that will kill your fantasy team in Week 5 if you let them.

5. Mario Manningham

1 of 5

I still recall a few weeks ago when I drafted Mario Manningham. I was certain I just received a burner that was ready to accept his promotion.

Manningham looked primed to get the bulk of touches after Hakeem Nicks, making him a prime fantasy stud to take you to many wins all year.

Yeah, not so much. The Giants have a new stud at No. 2, as Victor Cruz has emerged as a burner that can be trusted for crucial targets in the red zone. In fact, this is an ad for Victor Cruz love if it happens to be available.

4. Jay Cutler

2 of 5

Jay Cutler had a horrible day last Sunday against Carolina. Things will not be much better against the Lions on Monday night.

Detroit is primed to assert their dominance on Monday. The most pressing issue is the Lions' fine pass rush. Cutler will be forced to make some questionable decisions as he tries to avoid hits at every turn.

This is not the week to put Cutler back in the lineup.

3. Ben Roethlisberger

3 of 5

Big Ben will deliver paltry results this week. The man has been seen with a boot at practice, but that is not what scares me.

The Steelers offensive line has been scary soft. Think about how bad Mark Sanchez looked against the Ravens last weekend, and you will begin to see what a hobbled Roethlisberger will look like this Sunday, if he even plays.

Stay clear of the Steelers quarterback if you want a win this week. There are plenty of waiver-wire QB's that will be far better.

2. Chris Johnson

4 of 5

As I stated in the open, Chris Johnson has been atrocious for a man being paid the way he is. I understand that there is going to be rust, but it really should have been shaken off by now.

Johnson heads to Heinz Field to face the Steelers. Granted, the Steelers are not the same defense we remember last year, and are missing James Harrison as well.

However, he has still been stagnant against soft run defenses like the Browns and Broncos. Keep him on your bench for another player that can actually get to 15 fantasy points.

1. DeAngelo Williams

5 of 5

If you thought Chris Johnson has been awful, let me introduce you to DeAngelo Williams. Where Johnson asked for a raise and has scored 28 fantasy points so far, the so-called star running back Williams nabbed just 16 in the first four weeks.

Williams looked better against the Bears last week, but the damage has been done. Williams is sharing time and touches with Jonathan Stewart.

The Panthers are not about to stick with Williams and hope he figures it out at some point, and you shouldn't either.
