NFL Trade Rumors: Will Aaron Curry Land with Eagles, Packers or Panthers?

Ryan PhillipsOct 6, 2011

The Seattle Seahawks are reportedly exploring all their options when it comes to linebacker Aaron Curry and that includes potentially trading away the No. 4 overall pick from the 2009 NFL draft.

Curry lost his starting spot to rookie K.J. Wright and has pretty much played his way out of a spot on the roster.

Three teams reportedly have interest in acquiring the supremely talented yet disappointing Wake Forest product, and one of them is in desperate need of linebacking help.

The Carolina Panthers have lost both Thomas Davis and Jon Beason to season-ending injuries and clearly need to add something at the linebacker position. While Curry hasn't lived up to the hype that surrounded him coming out of college, he would at least provide an athletic body to fill a role for the Panthers.

He wouldn't be a replacement for either Beason or Davis, but things have got thin in Carolina and Curry could provide a boost.

Placed under the tutelage of head coach Ron Rivera, Curry could thrive. Rivera is a former stud linebacker himself and coached linebackers for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers. What's more, he has been the defensive coordinator for the Chargers and the Chicago Bears.

Rivera has had success getting the most out of guys like Jeremiah Trotter, Stephen Cooper, Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher. You'd be hard-pressed to convince me that Curry isn't as physically gifted as any of those guys.

Rivera would likely relish the chance to get his hands on a guy with Curry's physical abilities and that could be just what the young linebacker needs to turn his career around.

The Philadelphia Eagles could certainly use a talent upgrade at linebacker and the Green Bay Packers are also said to be interested in Curry. However, neither of those teams would be the perfect fit that Carolina would provide for the 25-year-old.

If they can get him for a late-round pick as expected, the Panthers will likely end up with Curry.
