Brandon Jacobs Injury: Updates on Giants Star's Week 5 Status and Fantasy Value

Matt FaulconerOct 6, 2011

The New York Giants have been struggling with injuries all season, and things aren't getting better as Brandon Jacobs has been missing practice all week.

The injury bodes well for Ahmad Bradshaw's fantasy owners, but it won't do much to comfort owners of Brandon Jacobs, let alone Giants fans who were hoping the team was finally getting healthy.

The New York Giants are going to have to face the Seattle Seahawks without powerful running back Brandon Jacobs, who is sidelined with an MCL sprain in his knee.

While this is bad for Jacobs’ owners, this is a dream come true for fantasy owners of Ahmad Bradshaw who will see a substantial increase in workload and production. Expect big things for Bradshaw in Jacobs’ absence.

The New York Giants will be without their powerful running back Brandon Jacobs for a few weeks after he sprained his MCL last week

With Jacobs out, the stock for Ahmad Bradshaw skyrockets, and he becomes a must start. There is also high a huge sell high possibility here, and you may be able to buy a great running back for a mediocre Bradshaw.

Update: Friday, Oct. 7 at 11:24 a.m. ET

Well, this is quite a strange turn of events. Just a day after Jacobs told the media that he would be good to go this weekend, Adam Schefter has confirmed that Jacobs has a sprained MCL via Mike Garafolo of the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

If he doesn't practice today, his status for Sunday will certainly be in doubt. It may not be Jacobs' decision on whether or not he can go this weekend due to the nature of his injury. This is certainly something to keep an eye on through the weekend, and it sounds like Ahmad Bradshaw might see an increased workload even if Jacobs does play.

Update: Thursday, Oct. 6 at 3:37 p.m. ET

While the coaches and medical staff haven't confirmed that Jacobs will be good to go this weekend, Jacobs is talking himself up according to Tom Rock of Newsday.

That's good news, but it still doesn't confirm that he will be in the lineup this weekend.

Update: Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2:07 p.m. ET

Just 30 minutes later, news is a bit better coming out of New York. According to Paul Schwartz of the NY Post, Jacobs wanted to practice today, but the doctors held him out.

However, his status remains uncertain for this weekend, according to Jeff Roberts of The Record.

Update: Thursday, Oct. 6 at 1:30 p.m. ET

Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger is reporting that a knee injury is keeping Brandon Jacobs out of practice.

The extent of the injury is not known at this point, but Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News reported yesterday that Jacobs was listed as day-to-day. However, he was expected to return to practice today.

"

Brandon Jacobs is missing his second straight day of practice today, due to an undisclosed knee injury. Yesterday, Tom Coughlin said Jacobs was experiencing swelling and was considered 'day to day'. He also had said that Jacobs was 'scheduled' to practice today.

"

That didn't exactly go according to plan, which has to concern both fantasy owners and Giants fans. His status for Sunday is still unknown, but if he misses the game, expect a big day from Ahmad Bradshaw.

Bradshaw will see an increased workload, and should be in line for a big performance against the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.
