NFL Trade Rumors: Should Philadelphia Eagles Make a Play for Aaron Curry?

Ryan PhillipsOct 6, 2011

The Seattle Seahawks have apparently given up on the Aaron Curry experiment at linebacker and are willing to listed to trade offers for the No. 4 pick from the 2009 NFL draft. Several teams could be interested in the Wake Forest product, including the now-formerly titled "Dream Team."

The Philadelphia Eagles are supposedly a potential landing spot for Curry and a move to pick him up might make sense. Philadelphia is sorely lacking talent at the linebacker position, and names like Brian Rolle, Jamar Chaney and Moise Fokou don't exactly inspire fear in opposing offenses.

The Eagles have been awful stopping the run this year, surrendering 139.5 yards per game, which ranks 30th in the NFL. Philadelphia's defense has also allowed an astounding 5.3 yards per carry, which is the second-worst average in the NFL.

Curry may not be a game-changer, and yes, he has been extremely disappointing since being drafted, but he could be had for very cheap right now. The Seahawks are motivated sellers, and the Eagles could use another body at linebacker. It would be an extremely low-risk move to try and swing a trade for a guy who, at the very least, is extremely talented.

The Eagles are floundering at 1-3, and their linebacking corps is their biggest weakness outside of the offensive line. While Curry may not be a big-time player, he could at least provide another body for a defense that has been knocked around so far this season.

Curry can be gotten for a late-round draft pick right now, and the Eagles would be foolish not to at least make an offer for him.
