Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings: Drew Brees and 5 Best QBs

Zach KruseOct 6, 2011

When setting your fantasy football lineups for Week 5 of the NFL season, believe me when I say that these five quarterbacks are the best plays for Sunday:

5. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

Stafford has thrown for at least two touchdowns and 240 yards in each of the first four games of the season, and there are very few teams that want to throw the ball as much as the Lions.

On Monday, he faces a Bears defense that was just shredded by Cam Newton for 374 yards. I'd have him higher, but I think the national attention and media hoopla around this game could get the Lions into another slow start.

However, that's about the only concern I have in this matchup.

4. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

The Saints will likely want to run the ball a little more against a Panthers defense that is susceptible on the ground, but this offense is still most dominant in the air.

Brees is the reason why. He's thrown for over 350 yards in three of four games this season, including back-to-back weeks.

That being said, Brees has also been intercepted four times in the past two weeks. He needs to take better care of the football. Even so, the Panthers will struggle to contain one of the game's best passers.

3. Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles

As long as Vick has been on the field in 2011, he's put up monster numbers. The main concern is that he's always taking hits and scrambling around.

His opponents on Sunday, the Buffalo Bills, have a league-worst four sacks. Therefore, he should be able to avoid the big hits and stay on the field.

What's more, the Eagles desperately need a win. Vick has to play well.

2. Tom Brady, New England Patriots

Brady hasn't been as impressive in the past two weeks (613 yards, 6 TDs, 4 INTs) as he was in the first two (940 yards, 7 TDs, 1 INT). However, the recent numbers aren't terrible in a fantasy sense.

The Patriots have been running the ball more in the past two weeks, too. However, I'd expect plenty of passing against the rival Jets.

Don't forget last year in Foxborough, either. Brady threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns.

1. Aaron Rodgers, Packers

Speaking of big performances, Rodgers is heading back to Atlanta. That is, the scene of his postseason magic in which he threw for 366 yards and had four total touchdowns in one of the more impressive playoff performances in Packers history.

The Falcons made very few changes to their secondary, but the Packers offense now has both Jermichael Finley and Randall Cobb.

Besides, no quarterback is playing better in the NFL right now than Rodgers. He's No. 1 until someone shows they are capable of knocking him off the top spot.
