Top 3 Landing Spots for Terrell Owens

Jon DoveOct 6, 2011

Terrell Owens sat down with ESPN's Steven A. Smith and talked about his return to football.  Owens is working his way back from a knee injury, and says he will be able to play in around a month.  This is intriguing news because Owens could potentially help someone make a playoff run.

Owens has had his share of locker room issues, but he is still a productive football player.  Last season, he was arguably the best receiving option on the Cincinnati Bengals.  Owens finished the season with 72 receptions, 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

If healthy, Terrell Owens would be a great addition for a team in need of a wide receiver.  His history shows that his locker room problems don't usually come to a head until after the first season.  In this situation, Owens would be brought in on a short-term contract.

However, not every situation would be a good fit, ideally he would land on a team with strong locker room leadership.

Top Landing Spots for Terrell Owens: Tennesse Titans

1 of 3

The Tennessee Titans are in a tough situation, as they are dealing with the loss of Kenny Britt. Britt was their top receiving option, and the only receiver that really threatened the defense. Without Britt, the Titans lack the explosiveness to take defenders out of the box and open the running game.

Owens doesn't have Britt's speed but he will command the attention of the defense. He has a knack of finding a hole in the defense and making big plays. His injury may limit his explosiveness, but don't underestimate the importance of a reputation.

The Titans have a good leadership base, with quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck. Kenny Britt wasn't exactly a model citizen, providing this team with experience dealing with difficult personalities.

Owens addition could help spark the offense, while giving the Titans a legitimate shot at winning the wide- open AFC South.

Top Landing Spots for Terrell Owens: Houston Texans

2 of 3

Houston is facing a make or break it season, with a playoff berth the only acceptable outcome. This season is their best opportunity to make the playoffs, with the Manning-less Colts. This past weekend Andre Johnson suffered a hamstring injury that could sideline him for a month. His replacements include Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones.

Owens will not be ready to immediately come in and help, but the long term health of Johnson has to be in question. As the Texans seen with Arian Foster, hamstring injures are unpredictable and have a tendency to linger.

Even if Johnson returns to full strength, Owens would bring another playmaker to this roster. He would help take some attention away from the constantly double teamed Johnson.

Top Landing Spots for Terrell Owens: New York Giants

3 of 3

This situation is less likely than the Texans and Titans. However, the Giants could use another receiving threat. Both Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham have been dealing with injuries. Owens would add some insurance in case the injury bug strikes again.

New York has seen the emergence of Victor Cruz, but the rest of the roster is depleted. If an injury occurs, Owens would be a great addition.
