The SEC, BCS, Oregon, and Boise State: Danny's NCAA Football Update

Welcome to the first edition of Danny's NCAA Football Update. I look forward to writing this article several times a week to let you know what you should know about what is going on in the world of college football. Lets get right into it.

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of being in Corvallis for the annual Civil war matchup between Oregon and Oregon State. First thought: the most dominant offensive performance I have ever seen put on a Top 25 team.

I felt like I was playing NCAA Football by EA on my PSP—it looked that easy. Even by video game standards, it was a huge offensive output.

That Ducks team I saw on Saturday would have beat anyone—ANYONE—in college football that day. Look what they did to the 15th-ranked defense!  Give that staff credit for pulling off a 9-3 regular season with four quarterback injuries and numerous other obstacles. 

If you don't think a healthy Oregon, with Masoli and Blount returning next year, isn't a preseason title contender, then you are either regionally biased, or uneducated about football.

An interesting fact on the Ducks-Beavers rivalry:

OSU Beaver fans will tell you their main rival and the team they hate the most is the Oregon Ducks.  But anyone outside the Pac 10 might be surprised to learn that if you ask that same question of an Oregon Ducks fan, you may be stunned by the answer.

More than half, and perhaps all, of Duck fans consider the Washington Huskies their main rival! But more on this in an upcoming article.

Some other weekend observations:

Undefeated Boise State is gonna get screwed out of a BCS berth to two-loss Ohio State. These two teams' performances in BCS games should convince anybody that Boise State belongs and Ohio State does not.

Texas got Screwed. 45-35 is all I have to say on the subject. Coaches, get your head out of your -----.

The SEC is just average this year, just like the Pac 10, which is also having a down season. But at this point in the season, I would take USC, Oregon, and a healthy Oregon State against any three SEC teams in a round-robin tournament right now.

The Big 12 is clearly the top conference this year, and don't be so quick to write Missouri off against Oklahoma.

The Sooners are a team that's due for a little bad karma. Oklahoma is historically a program that has gotten the most big breaks and calls going its way.  That screw job in Eugene two and a half years ago didn't even begin to payback the karma that will befall this program.

Bob Stoops 317 consecutive BCS bowl losses don't even begin to payback what Oklahoma is owed for all the favoritism this program has been given over the years.

Look for a Missouri upset, and then Look for Oklahoma to be facing...gulp (if your Stoops)...Oregon in the Holiday Bowl!

This would be huge! It would be the highest-rated Holiday Bowl ever! What excuses would Oklahoma have after it gets slaughtered by the Chip Kelly's Oregon offense in front of impartial refs?
