Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Eric BowmanOct 5, 2011

The Texas A&M Aggies hit the road to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders for the last time as Big 12 conference foes. This is the 70th time these two teams have met, and don't expect this rivalry to end as a blow out, because both teams will be bringing it.

The Aggies have suffered two losses in a row, and in both games, they blew large leads. Will the same fate occur against the Red Raiders?

Texas Tech is 4-0 at the moment, but the Aggies happen to be the first real test for the Red Raiders. This is a chance for Texas Tech to seize the moment and continue kicking the Aggies while they're down. However, if the Aggies want to salvage their season, they need an impressive win over their rival.

With that said, let's dig into some specifics about this Big 12 showdown.

When: Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET

Where: Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX

Watch: FX

Listen: KZNE 1150 AM, College Station, KJTV 950 AM, Lubbock

Betting Line

The Aggies are favored at -9, which worries me a little. I think they can win by a touchdown, but winning by 10 points might be pushing it. Texas A&M needs to make a statement on Saturday, but there's no denying that the Red Raiders will keep it close for a while. After blowing big leads in two straight games, it's difficult to trust the Aggies even though they should cover.

Texas A&M Injury Report

Defensive end Jonathan Mathis will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, and safety Steven Campbell suffered a leg injury against Arkansas and will miss at least the next two games.

Texas Tech Injury Report

The Red Raiders leading wide receiver Darrin Moore (ankle) is considered a game time decision, and strong safety Pete Robertson (shoulder) is listed as probable. Linebacker Tanner Foster (groin) is questionable, but right tackle Mickey Okafor is expected to play.

BCS/Top 25 Implications

The Aggies are ranked at No. 24 right now, and if they want to avoid being dropped, they have to win this game. The Red Raiders, on the other hand, need a victory over a legit team in order to get some recognition.

Neither team has a real shot at a BCS bowl this year, but reaching and staying in the top 25 has now become their primary goal.

What They're Saying

Aggies' leading receiver Ryan Swope was speaking with reporters after the recent loss, and he knew exactly what his team needed to do heading forward. Per FOX Sports:

"

It's going to be interesting to see how guys react and what leaders will step up to the table. It's only two games. It's not the end of the world. We can bounce back, that's for sure.

"

He is right that the Aggies don't need to panic too much, but they have to stay focused for Saturday's game. If they find themselves in a whole they cannot get discouraged, and if they build a big lead, they cannot get too comfortable. It's clear the defense has to step up and make plays, but the offense must also perform in the clutch as well.

Red Raiders coach Tommy Tuberville told reporters he was let down that the Aggies would be departing from the Big 12 and this rivalry would be coming to and end for the time being. Per Fox Sports:

"

"Yeah, it is sad," he said. "You never would think a rivalry like this would end, and maybe one day it will start back up. You never say never....But, you know, it's just the tradition of the game is what you lose.

"We've got to go on and do what we need to do to make ourselves better and make sure our conference stays together and gets stronger as we go along."

"

The Red Raiders haven't had a ton of success over the years, but they've slowly been re-building since the Mike Leach incident.

It is a shame the rivalry won't be played every year, but it does help the Red Raiders out for the future. If the Big 12 stays in tact that is.

Texas A&M Player to Watch

A week ago, I stated that Cyrus Gray needed to rebound strong for the Aggies, but Christine Michael stepped up and carried the load rushing for 32 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

Michael broke his leg against the Red Raiders a year ago, so keep and eye on him this game because you know he wants revenge. Last week was his first start of the year, and he definitely made the most of it. We'll see if he can do it again this week against the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech Player to Watch

With leading receiver Darrin Moore a game time decision, look to Eric Ward to continue to step up should Moore be on the sidelines again.

Ward has seven touchdown receptions, which is tied for the top spot in the Big 12. The Red Raiders love to air it out, and since the Aggies secondary was torched last week, expect Ward to be a key factor on Saturday.

Key Matchup

The Aggies are facing another team with a solid pass attack, and their secondary has to be ready to slow down the Red Raiders. Two weeks in a row, the Aggies secondary has been lit up, which is exactly what Texas Tech hopes to do this weekend.

So will the Red Raiders thrive on the arm of junior quarterback Seth Doege? Or will the Aggies finally stop their opponents from throwing for well over 400 yards?

Key Storyline

As mentioned before, this is the last time the Aggies and Red Raiders will square off as conference foes. The Aggies are headed to the SEC, and since they've beaten Texas Tech two years in a row now, they of course want to go out with a bang. On the other hand, the Red Raiders want payback for how bad they've been beat down the past two seasons.

Prediction

With Ryan Tannehill, Jeff Fuller, Christine Michael, Cyrus Gray and Ryan Swope, the Aggies are just too talented for the Red Raiders to handle.

It will be tough for the Aggies to hit the road after two gut-wrenching losses, but I expect them to make a statement here, reminding everyone why they were a top 10 to begin the season.
