Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings: Jay Cutler and the 5 Worst QBs

Zach KruseOct 5, 2011

When setting your fantasy football lineups for Week 5 of the NFL season, these quarterbacks should likely stay on your bench:

Jay Cutler, Bears

Mike Martz and the Bears offense rediscovered their running game in Week 4, but Cutler again had a below-par performance. He threw for just 102 yards and had an interception in one of the more disappointing fantasy outings of the season for a quarterback. Now, he gets to face a Lions defense who is fifth against opposing quarterbacks in fantasy points despite giving up three scores and over 300 yards to Tony Romo.

Blaine Gabbert, Jaguars

Gabbert may one day turn into a fantasy option, but he's not even worth having on your roster at this point. He has just 21 total fantasy points in two NFL starts, which is exactly half of what Aaron Rodgers put up last week against the Broncos. The Bengals also haven't given up a touchdown pass in two weeks, which doesn't bode well for Gabbert's fantasy projection this weekend.

Tarvaris Jackson, Seahawks

There may be an owner or two who is tempted to start Jackson after he threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns against the Falcons, but consider that a fantasy anomaly. He won't put up those kind of numbers all season, and he still had a pair of picks. The Giants aren't exactly a great matchup either; they've given up just 12 fantasy points combined over the past two weeks.

Donovan McNabb, Vikings

It wouldn't be unreasonable to think that a few owners might have the option of playing McNabb as the bye weeks start to trickle in, but why? There are more attractive options for bye week fill-ins. The matchup this week isn't exactly bad for McNabb and the Vikings, as the Cardinals have given up the 22nd most fantasy points to quarterbacks. But the gas light on McNabb's career is certainly on. He's running on fumes at this point.

Andy Dalton, Bengals

The Jaguars have been surprisingly good against the pass this season, and they did a noble job against Drew Brees and the Saints a week ago. The Bengals' rookie quarterback could struggle in the same matchup, especially if the Jags eliminate A.J. Green downfield. Let the Red Rifle learn on your fantasy bench this week and only play him in the absolute right matchups.
