Big East Recap: Week Two

Ryan BrennanDec 1, 2008

Wow. That is the only way to describe Week Two for the Big East.

Four of the seven ranked Big East teams from last week lost—some to worthy, ranked opponents (Notre Dame to North Carolina, Georgetown to Tennessee), and others to complete upsets (Marquette to Dayton, Louisville to Western Kentucky).

The main question surrounding the Big East now is whether the preseason hype about it being the best conference in college hoops was warranted and if we can expect to constantly hear "OVERRATED!" chanted at future games.

At the start of Week Three, the Big East still has the No. 2 and 3 ranked teams overall and seven teams currently in the top 25 (Syracuse became ranked for the first time this season, while Marquette fell out of the top 25).

The next few weeks should provide some insight into how good the Big East actually is. Only two of the fifteen games to watch before Big East conference play begins have occurred and both have resulted in Big East teams upsetting their opponents. Two are set to go this Saturday, Ohio State at Notre Dame and Wisconsin at Marquette, and they should be great games for both teams.
