2012 NFL Mock Draft: How Many QBs Will Crack Top 10?

Wes ODonnellOct 5, 2011

NFL fans are already getting excited about Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

In fact, much of the media focus for the teams at the bottom of the NFL has been about possibly drafting Andrew Luck come April.

We still have four winless teams and seven one-loss teams in the league. That narrows it down to 11 possible teams "earning" the No. 1 pick.

A couple of .500 teams have to be considered as well, but for the most part they all have their quarterbacks.

But only one team will get the chance to draft Andrew Luck, and that means the rest of the quarterback-needy teams (and there are many) will have to settle for someone else.

The question is—how many of these QBs will crack the top 10?

No. 1Stanford QB Andrew Luck

The consensus No. 1 overall prospect two years running isn't going to be passed by any of the other quarterbacks in the class.

That said, should a team like the Panthers earn the No. 1 pick (they obviously plan on keeping Cam Newton), he could slide to No. 2.

Luck going No. 1 is the most likely scenario, though.

Even if the Panthers (or Rams or Jaguars or Vikings) were to obtain to obtain No. 1, they would likely put it on the trading block.

Prospects like Luck do not come around very often, and other teams will be jumping through hoops to land him.

Currently, the 0-4 Dolphins hold the No. 1 spot in the latest mock.

No. 6Oklahoma QB Landry Jones

The stat-stuffing machine in Norman has been a hot topic of debate much of this summer and into the season. Ever since he replacing the injured Sam Bradford, many wondered whether it was all about system, or if the 6'4", 230-pounder was a legitimate first round prospect.

He's answered those questions so far this season and has been even more accurate than expected.

The Sooners take on the Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry this weekend. Then, we'll get a chance to see Jones take on four ranked teams—Kansas State, Baylor, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State—in the final five weeks of the season.

Jones will move up even higher if he quarterbacks this team to an undefeated season and National Championship berth through that schedule.

Currently, the 1-3 Chiefs hold the No. 6 spot in the latest mock.

No. 7USC QB Matt Barkley

There is still much to be desired of Matt Barkley, but he does have first round tools.

His decision-making is something scouts and coaches will harp on, but he has shown impressive growth since taking over the Trojans as a freshman. You can't ask for much more when thrown into the fire with a team that is always expected to compete.

Barkley's upside and athleticism will keep teams interested.

Ironically, the Seahawks and former USC coach Pete Carroll currently hold the No. 7 pick.
