Fantasy Football Week 5 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Cam Newton and 3 Studs To Start

Gabe ZaldivarOct 5, 2011

It's time to drop any doubt you may have had on Cam Newton. The dude can simply ball. I also have my eye on two other studs that will have you winning Week 5, and rubbing it in your opponents' faces.

Now begins the nasty portion of the season. Forget the sign them and leave them ethos in Weeks 1 through 4. With a bye week, every last manager in the world will be eying players to start over their tried and true starters.

This is the time to dig deep and find value where you may not have previously found it. What we have here are three players that have taken very different route to their starts in Week 5.

No matter how they got here, the conclusion is simple: They must be in your lineup on Sunday.

Cam Newton

The NFL really shouldn't be this easy for a rookie. Cam Newton has come in and provided star numbers in every game. I am of course neglecting the Jacksonville game which is a pure outlier because of conditions.

Aside from that, Newton has thrown for 374, 432 and 422 yards in the other three games. Two of those games were against the Bears and Packers. Yes, he is playing a very good Saints team. Such things seem not to matter for Newton.

Pierre Garcon

The Kerry Collins experiment was tough on the eyes. Curtis Painter may not have delivered a win in his first start, but that hardly matters for you fantasy owners.

What is crucial is the fact that Painter felt very comfortable with Garcon as a key target. As Painter gets his feet under him as the starter, he will continue this rapport that saw Garcon catch two balls for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Arian Foster

Friends who have Arian Foster on their team have asked incessantly when they can begin playing Foster with confidence. The answer is: now.

Foster got back to his role as one of the best running backs in the game last week when he ran 30 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown. The man is back, and will give you the points you have been waiting so patiently for.
