7 Most Charismatic Golfers on Tour

Immer ChriswellOct 4, 2011

As we've found out at the hands of former World No. 1 Tiger Woods, it pays to have charisma.

All of the golf game in the world kept him on top, but all of the sudden when it was gone, Tiger was nobody. Everybody could take shots at him because he couldn't command the crowd. It took until Tiger's game was at its pit to realize this.

However, there isn't anyone who has the Tiger Woods immunity card. Nobody right now is that dominant, so personality is a must to be in a good eye of the general public. The key is charisma, charm, that special something that makes someone so likable.

So who holds that on tour?

Note: In order to be on the list, the player must be a regular PGA Tour participant.

The Microphone Debauchery:

1 of 8

As many guys that are good at the mic, there are plenty that are horrible at it. Like...

Tiger Woods: It's just fact. Tiger wasn't trained to handle this. He's used to control. The media does not give control to anyone who isn't the top in the sport. We see why Tiger has issues now more than ever.

Bubba Watson: As much as America loves him, he doesn't know what to say or how to say it. Before the huge game he's shown in the past few years, Bubba was a pro with a lot of anger issues. He showed it in his interviews. He's candid, but in his case, a filter would do him plenty of good.

Rory Sabbatini: Everything he does is wrong, and he doesn't have the words to explain why he's Rory. It's a double whammy. Jerk and no thoughts worth saying.

Sergio Garcia: It's not that he's horrible at it, but his recent comments make him sound like a depressed person. Saying he just wants it to be over, that he can't find his passion for the game. For someone in the top 10 in scoring average on the PGA and European, it's baffling to everyone. Even before that Sergio definitely had his issues with the media, and the recent comments only add to a cloud of mystery.

No. 7: Jim Furyk

2 of 8

It's hard to explain, but Jim Furyk is just so easy to talk to it seems. He's so smooth, practiced in everything that he's been able to be one of Ameirca's favorite golfers.

It helps to have a squeaky clean record when it comes to the media, and Jim Furyk has never been one to make waves.

It may not have been charisma, but the image of Furyk with the backwards hat tapping in for the FedEx Cup is just another gem in the history of Jim Furyk's record.

No. 6: Dustin Johnson

3 of 8

Dustin Johnson went from zero to America's most pitied man in a matter of one round of golf. Then he broke their hearts again.

Johnson has been the most graceful man in defeat in major championship history. He has faced his issues and that is why America can find a favorite golfer in him.

And whether or not he meant it, his recent comments about Joe LaCava moving bags to Tiger Woods only bettered himself to the public. He's taken all of his losses in grace, and that's why Dustin Johnson is so easy to love.

No. 5: Adam Scott

4 of 8

Although Scott has a caddy that is less than likable as of late, when you see him address the media you can sense a sincerity in his tone. He likes having Steve on the bag, it's not his fault that he isn't an admirable personality.

Basing things solely on Scott's way of dealing, he's a media stud. Attractive, smooth-swinging, he's been strikingly candid. He knew he was supposed to be the man to contend with Tiger when he came to the PGA Tour, but acknowledged that once here he was aware that he wasn't the man to do so.

Being able to admit that takes a lot from a person.

Outside of that, Scott's always been very easy to speak with the media. He answers what he's asked, and has never had any noticeable spats despite his lack of success in the eyes of him and the media.

No. 4: Matt Kuchar

5 of 8

A golden media personality, Matt Kuchar's smile matches his bright personality. His charisma comes without effort. Everything he says is said with a smile, and it's never a negative comment from Kuchar.

His consistency went unnoticed this year, but Kuchar's play this year was on par with last year, and if he continues this with his charisma, you could be looking at one of America's favorite golfers for years to come.

No. 3: Steve Stricker

6 of 8

Possibly one of the most respected Americans in the game, Steve Stricker's way of dealing with the media is like his golf swing. Smooth and seamless. No glitches, just a golfer in pursuit of a crowning major win.

He's never, ever been the guy to badmouth the media, and is one of the few guys with the guts to stick up for Tiger Woods. You have to respect how Steve handles himself whenever asked questions.

It's tough to say a lot about these guys at the top because they've never had an issue, and they flawlessly present themselves. That's Steve Stricker in a nutshell.

No. 2: Luke Donald

7 of 8

The new world's top player is everything the media could have hoped for. He's dealt splendidly with the attention; it's hard to put it any other way.

He tweets, talks to the media and is candid in his approach to the public. What he says is what everyone wants in a top player.

The last key is to achieve that ultimate level of dominance, with a major championship making him a truly regarded top player. He's got the rest of it, especially charisma.

No. 1: Phil Mickelson

8 of 8

His struggles are what makes him one of America's favorite men to root for. His open nature about his struggles and situation make him that much more likable.

Phil has always known what to say to the media. He may be a little wacky in some natures, but we wouldn't like him so much if he didn't have some oddities.

When it's come to the media, Phil's mastered being a media sweetheart. Whether or not he's wanted the title, he's earned it because he has the overpowering ability to charm people with his story and struggles.
