NY Daily News Writer Has Miami Heat to Blame for Shameful Walk to Foxboro

Never make a stupid bet when it involves LeBron James in a pressure situation.

New York Daily News Jets beat writer Manish Mehta found out as much after making this ill advised bet with his faithful Twitter followers back in June:

The tweet was sent out during Game 2 of the NBA Finals when the Heat held a commanding 15-point advantage in the fourth quarter only to watch the lead vanish into thin air.

Now that the NFL season has reached Week 5 and the New York Jets are heading north to take on the New England Patriots—it’s time for Mehta to do what he promised. The total distance is around 170 miles, so hopefully he started the journey early on Monday.

But a last, it looks like he won’t be coming through on his bet judging by this tweet he sent out on Tuesday:

It’s too bad, that could have been one incredible story. The publicity for this stunt could have been huge. Think about the scene in Forest Gump where Tom Hanks is running around the country and people are cheering him on wherever he goes.

It was a good example of how a large group of people can rally behind anybody that is attempting to travel a long distance by foot.

Mehta would be showered with support in the Big Apple and for the first 100 or so miles. Then he would begin to hear it once the New England states began to creep closer. It would be a terrific way to raise money for some sort of good cause.

And to think this is all because of LeBron and his teammates ridiculous sense of cockiness back in June.

It’s hard to fault Mehta for not coming through on his bet considering it’s hard to cover the Jets while walking 170 miles in the middle of the season.

The bet is simply a reminder of how bad of a choke-job that was back in June. Three months later we are still reminded about it.
