Andre Johnson Injury Update: Texans Hit Hard as Johnson Will Miss 2-3 Weeks

Gabe ZaldivarOct 4, 2011

The Houston Texans are forced to take a step back after a marvelous start to the season. Their star receiver Andre Johnson is out for what looks to be two to three weeks.

The Texans have ruled the ground game in the early goings, capturing an average of 148.5 yards per game, good for fourth in the NFL

What passing game they have attained has been at the hands of Johnson. The star receiver has reeled in 25 receptions for 352 yards and two touchdowns.

Now the Texans will have to scramble to find another trustworthy set of hands. NFL writer for NBC Sports, Evan Silva, tweeted an ominous post on Tuesday.

The news could obviously be a lot worse than it is. However, a team that has come out of the gates with a 3-1 record, and has mixed defense with a ground-and-pound game, needs Johnson to carry the rest of the load.

You couldn't ask for a nicer and more humble athlete to root for. Johnson is a star player that is neither flashy or overbearing. He will be missed for however long he is gone.

There is also the case of hamstring injuries becoming a nagging issue. This may be a immediate assessment that could become shorter or, dare I say, longer in the coming weeks.

It is certainly going to be a hard time for Texans fans that had hoped to get to their Week 11 bye week with a near flawless record.

A quick look at their record shows they are tasked with games against the Oakland Raiders, Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans in the next three weeks.

Both the Ravens and Titans have corralled their opponents passing game very well in the first four weeks.

The Texans are not a one-dimensional team by any stretch of the imagination. However, Johnson is a key player that leads by example.

His departure to the sidelines will no doubt be felt as Houston takes on a very tough part of their schedule.
