WWE: 6 Reasons Why Jack Swagger Will Take the U.S. Title From Dolph Ziggler

Sharon GlencrossOct 4, 2011

While WWE Raw is currently being dominated by the power struggle angle involving COO Triple H and several other major names, one intriguing mid-card storyline has flown under the radar: the rising tension brewing between the new tag team of Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger.

Ever since manager Vickie Guerrero recruited the All-American star and paired him with her long-term client, the team's run has been marred by in-fighting and bickering, and it's been clear the two are headed for a violent clash in the future—and likely with current champ Ziggler's U.S Title on the line.

With this in mind, here are a list of reasons we reckon Swagger will seize the belt from Ziggler in the upcoming months (well, provided him and the rest of the Raw roster actually come back to work).

Ziggler Has Had the Confidence Knocked out of Him

1 of 6

Ever since Hollywood star Hugh Jackman broke his jaw on Raw several weeks ago, or so the storyline went, a whiny Ziggler has been complaining to everyone that will listen (including a bemused HHH) about the assault.

Rather than putting it behind him, the outraged star has become fixated on the incident, even pushing the matter in the David Otunga-led lawsuit against the COO, citing it as concrete evidence of "an unsafe working environment."

The attack by a non-wrestler has clearly embarrassed the U.S Champion and rocked his confidence, and an opportunistic Swagger can clearly capitalize on this in any title match the pair have.

Swagger Will Have Vickie Guerreo on His Side

Ever since Swagger and Guerrero exchanged compliments and heaped lavish praise on one another in a backstage skit on Raw last month, it's been clear the fickle cougar has gotten bored on her long-term boy toy, Dolph, and is on the look out for some new blood. Ziggler's jealous reaction to Swagger on recent episodes of Raw indicate he might be realizing this too.

If the duplicitous manager does indeed side with the All-American star in his upcoming feud with Ziggler, her presence at ringside will be a massive boost to his title hopes.

WWE Management Are Getting Behind Swagger Again

3 of 6

After his erratic main event push in 2010, management demoted Jack Swagger and he has been languishing in the lower mid-card ever since, sans a brief spell as Michael Cole's trainer earlier this year.

No one was quite sure why WWE were so displeased with All-American wrestler and so harshly buried him, although there were some rumors he had gotten an ego during his big push and WWE were hoping to knock some sense into him.

Regardless of the reason, WWE now seem pleased with Swagger again and have recently heightened his profile on Raw and pay-per-view. Swagger has main evented Raw a few times (including last night's thrilling 12 man tag match) and has looked competitive in there with established main event stars like John Cena and CM Punk. With this in mind, it seems extremely likely that the booking team will continue his push with a victory and title win over Ziggler.

It's Time for a New Champion

Winning the U.S Title from Kofi Kingston at June's Capitol Punishment pay-per-view, Ziggler has held the title a decent length of time and it's now time for a new champion. While the talented Ziggler has performed admirably as champion, the belt risks getting stale if it stays on him for much longer.  Hence, it seems the perfect time for a title switch.

The Belt Would Help Swagger Get over

As the WWE booking team attempt to rebuild Swagger following their dismantling of him last year, it is likely that they will realize that the former OU star will require the U.S Title if he is to get over more with the fans. Certainly, Ziggler does not need the belt anymore and a still struggling Swagger would be greatly aided by a decisive win over the current champion.

It Makes Sense for the Storyline

6 of 6

Swagger emerging triumphant from a title match with Ziggler seems to be a natural culmination for the current storyline on Raw.  As the tension between Swagger and his new tag team partner mounts on Raw, with the fiendish Vickie fanning the flames, it is easy to see the OU star growing increasingly jealous of Ziggler's gold, and Vickie betraying her boyfriend and helping Swagger seize the belt from him, turning Dolph face in the process.

Certainly, a Dolph face turn is something that has been talked about, and nothing would help make him more sympathetic to fans than being screwed out of his beloved by title by Guerrero and Swagger.
